Nightlife… Wildlife… Wildlife at night, whatevers… there are no pubs, there are no clubs… there is a keg in the clubhouse that the humans gather around, as the wildlife roam free outside. The bats are difficult to take pictures of, so I guess we’ll settle for a deer.
Dress Code: If you are going out in the woods at night, protective clothing from the bugs/mosquitoes is always recommended with some good ol fashion DEET.
You will also feel the cockles of you innards warm as you learn that your buttocks are now resting on the same stool as “The Galloping Ghost” Red Grange, Katherine Hepburn and James Cagney. I am a little disappointed that neither Heather Graham or Will Ferrel as not visited yet.more
One cannot count on the locals’ sense of style and taste; at least it fuels my sense of humor. Every boy to man owns a gun, and they all like to kill animals. What they do with the hunted, if left up to the imagination. As you can see, stuffing a black bears, making them look mean, and dressing it up with a handbag and a Charlie Chaplin style hat...more
For boys, kill’n things with guns is a right of passage. One can cage their self worth and manliness by the size of the fish they catch or by the number of “points” the antler has on the dead deer. This is shown by the number of animals hung in on the walls of homes, bars, restaurants and bathrooms. You may find a jack-o-lope or two if you are...more
In central PA, there is a small town - Morris. This claims fame to the rattlesnake capital of the world. This is also about 25 minutes away from English Center. PA is home to the Timber Rattler. What makes this rattlesnake a little bit more dangerous, is that they do not like to use their rattles till it is too late! They would rather stay still and quiet to let intruders pass…. So watch your step while you are hiking. Ohhh…ya… their pretty well camouflaged too.
the photo is of two Timber Rattlers "fighting" over a female that is somewhere close by... i didn't stick around to find out where...
Why do 90% of the people have SUV or 4x4 in California? I will never know. But around these parts it is a necessity, and even fun. Lets grab a case and go four-wheel’n!!! WOOO-WHOOOO!!!
It is not the best way to see wildlife, but we did managed to see a couple wild turkeys, eagles, many deer and a bobcat on this particular drive... along with these two animals pictured.
I never got too big on the hunting, both my grandparents hunted. It seemed to much work to go hiking in the winter mountains. Walking in unpacked snow is tough. Then lets say you actually shoot a 150lb deer or a 300lb bear. Now you have to drag that dead weight the same way you just came. No thanks. But give me a gun and some inanimate object to...more
It’s not too big, but it holds a lot. Sometimes I will count 30+ trout in this pool. This is where my brother stood one August afternoon when a black bear decided to be curious in my brothers actions. The Bear, Booboo (let’s call him), stood on the ledge to the left where this picture was taken. We’ve always been told that bears are more scared of...more
This is an old picture. Most of the cribbing is no longer there. A few years ago, there was a hurricane that swept through here causing floods and land slides. By looking at the picture, you can guess what happened. One of those places, you never think of time changing. But it does. The first time I saw what remained of the Cribbing, I sat on a...more
