Maximilian's (at the Bel-Aire Hotel)
Cozy seating areas in the lounge with fireplace . . . Beautiful surrounding . . . You feel like you are at a really small initimate club when it is really rather large

Downtown Erie: Complete Guide to Bar Hopping

First of all, let me warn you: It's dirt cheap to get totally wasted around here. There are always awesome specials. You can find Quarter Drafts at one of these bars on any night of the week. Decent parking, all within walking distance. We'll start on the corner of 5th and State: Sherlocks / Parkplace: Usually a cover, always a fun crowd, live bands at Sherlocks (and it's connected to) Parkplace has a DJ and beer pong. Walk about 6 blocks up, and there's the first dance club (on 10th St), Peccadillo's. A bit of a meat factory but it's a great place to dance (3 different DJ's: Oldies, top 40, and country). Right now, there's no cover. A bit further up, there's Papa George's... Country Bar, crowded, hot... but a good time. No cover. Then you'll pass the Hot Dog verdor "What the ****!! It's just a buck!!"... I love those guys... Then a block up, there's Nicky's Pub. 80's music... It's pretty new, so it's just catching on. No Cover. Right next door to that is Docksider. Kind of a classy-casual place. They usually have a band (cover) More laid back (where Sherlocks is more rock). Another block up, you're at the Plymouth... this is a great bar - but no one really knows why - myself included. No cover, no bands, no DJ... Decent drink specials... There's just a fun atmosphere there... it's a good time. They have a nice outdoor patio there. Another block up and you're at Cellblock. Looking for a shamelessly-ghetto-*ss-shakin experience? You'll find it here. Great drink specials and 2 floors (2 DJ's) $1 cover. And even though it's a bit... well, ghetto-fabulous... I always feel safe there. They employ every 7 foot tall car-bench-pressing mofo in this city... and they don't mess around. So trust me, you're safe. A couple blocks up is Calamari's... Eh... It's always really crowded... rarely decent drink specials... They have a big patio outside... that's about it... I usually don't go there. Now you're officially ready to get your party on!!

Dress Code: The only place that really has a dress code is Cellblock... No Camo, wear your hat and your pants right... other than that, some decent jeans and a nice shirt can take you all the way up State St.

PLYMOUTH TAVERN: GOOD FOOD, GREAT DRINKS, INTERESTING PEOPLE

a group of us got rained out of a "seawolves" game (Eries minor league baseball team) and we all decided to head over to the Plymouth Tavern for some drinks and a bite to eat. Apparently a lot of people had the same idea. we had a great time here, cheap, yummie food, interesting people, and .25 cent beer! The beer was on a specific day of the week and its probably gone up a bit from inflation - like maybe .50 cent beer now. It reminded me of a sort of "cheers" but with a lot more people.
