We've visited The Log Cabin Inn for years and especially look forward to sampling the salads, where it's the restaurant's custom to top them with a heaping pile of French fries.
Normally I decline this caloric treat, however, I forgot this time....probably owing to the fact we've lived out of the state for several years. In any event, the fries sure jazzed up the salad!
The Log Cabin sits along Perry Highway between Zelienople and Lancaster (not the Amish town of the same name). Although a steady stream of cars pass by its front door, the restaurant fronts a lush woods and overlooks a small hillside--something you'll appreciate when seated in the rear of the building.
Here's a taste of what they offer: Basket of homemade chips with spicy dip $2.99
Log Cabin Steak Salad, fire-grilled Springfield Sirloin topped with provolone cheese and fries $8.99
The Big Fish, fillet of Icelandic haddock, batter-dipped and fried golden brown $7.29
Country-Fried Chicken, chicken breast, batter-dipped and fried golden, topped with bacon and cheddar cheese with a side of ranch dressing $7.49
Baked Penne Mozzarella, imported pasta and mild Italian sausagae tossed in homemade Marinara sauce, finished with mozzarella cheese $10.99.
A log interior and hunting trophies (elk, bison) add a rustic touch to the restaurant (pic #2). We enjoyed meeting friends, Joyce and George, here for lunch before we flew back to the Dallas area. It was so much fun seeing them again.
This is THE best place in town. People are usually lined up on the sidewalk to get in at lunch time. Nowhere else around can you get this much home made food for so cheap, and the wait staff is incredible. Family of 4 can eat a full meal with extras for under 20 dollars.
Favorite Dish: Everything on the menu is just incredile. The home made pies are great , too.
