    Swap Meet in 1971

The big Swap Meet and Antique Car Show which is held in October can have definite weather problems. One year it rained and turned the swap meet field into a quagmire. I had to be very careful to put my feet down square or they would slide out from under me. It was very tiring walking.

Other years it has been quite cold - and then again it can be really hot and humid, although in October, cold is more likely.

So be sure you bring clothing for any eventuality.

Section of the campground during the car show

With vendors in 9,000 flea market spaces, and owners of approximately 2,500 show cars plus visitors from all over the United States and many countries throughout the world the Hershey hotel and motel spaces are strained to the utmost. There are no spaces available for at least 50 miles around.

Hershey does have a campground where you can stay, but even here you need to make a reservation in advance

Hershey, PA crime stats put it into the top 10% of safe places for vacationing in America.
There are only 4 sex offenders registered in the greater Hershey area.
The averages show less than 1 murder or rape per year. Auto Theft is the prevelant non-violent crime and even that is very low compared to national averages for a population similar to Hershey.

So enjoy your visit to this town but remember to take normal precautions such as locking doors and putting valuables in a safe place and keeping an eye on the kids. Better safe, than sorry
