Do Not - Repeat - - DO NOT Stay Here!!
At the foot of the Incline Plane in Johnstown (which you must not miss if you visit here) is a very conveniently located motel, The Towne Manor Motel on Johns Street. Because of it's very close proximity to downtown, the major roadways, and the War Memorial Building (lots of entertainment here) and the Incline Plane, you may think this would be a good place to stay. Wrong. This is the WORST place I have ever stayed in my life. The rooms have no air conditioning (or it didn't work) the blinds are broken, beds are thin and lumpy to the extreme so that they are almost impossible to sleep on. On our way out after a sleepless night we found litter in the hallway (garbage from a MacDonald's meal) which in all fairness might have just been left there, but still I would definitely NOT recommend this accommodation. They offer a continental breakfast which had been cleared out, either by guests or management, by 8am. They say they have been in business for 19 years. Go figure. . .

This is an artist rendition of how the dam might have looked just after it broke and the massive amount of water that poured through it that day. Though I don't see any real dangers of visiting Johnstown, it does lie in a flood plain, the last flood being in 1977. Maybe something to consider if your thinking of moving there or visiting during a very wet season.
