Favorite thing: This area is rich in Pa. German & Old Order Mennonite culture, Sunday, The Sabbath, continues to be observed as a day of rest (ie-non-commerce). Whether or not you're religous, I think its a nice idea to have a day off! Anyway, all our local farmstands, woodworkers, and other Mennonite businesses will not be open. Most Main St. stores are closed too. Go fishing or kite-flying instead of shopping !
Favorite thing: The plainfolk you see riding in buggies or on bikes in Berks County are NOT Amish; They are Old Order Mennonites, a less-strict Anabaptist group. They do have phones & electricity, no radios;A/C;TV, or rubber tires, Steel wheels only on tractors, yes, rubber wheels on bikes. In season, visit farm stands for fresh eggs, baked goods & produce. The most honest, friendly, genuine group of humans you're ever likely to meet. Leave them with a good impression of us not-so-plain folks!
Fondest memory: "Drive" being a foreign word would be neuter; "in" does not indicate motion or change of state=> takes the dative case="im"
Two centuries of grammar later
Wet Cement Im Drive
