    Mark's Sandwich Shop: unreMARKable

restaurant on Main Street; parking in rear

Not a bad place to eat; nothing fancy. Nice clean little store which serves sandwiches made fresh. Choose from the standards: turkey, roast beef and tunafish or go with something more unique like cornbeef or proscuitto or capicola.
The buns are very good and the prices were reasonable (under $10 per person for a sandwich and drink).
The restaurant boasts that it has "the best cheese steak in town".

It wasn't at all busy on a Wednesday afternoon. There is very limited shortterm parking in front but it is better to swing around Greenwich Street and enter the rear parking area.
It is open daily from 10am to 10pm.

Favorite Dish: try a mix of capicola and turkey slathered with vinegar and oil and some provolone on top.

  • Janelle Restaurant: Fair food, glacially slow service

This catering-hall-cum-restaurant seats a very large crowd yet the see-in kitchen is smaller than in some homes; Hence, you can wait a full hour for your order when they are busy (eg--Sat. mornings). Unbelievable delays. They aspire to be a diner but end up way short. The food is on par w/any other local Pa. Dutch breakfast/lunch joint, where service will be 100% better. Patently not reccomended.

This is a diner-like place where you go for a quick bowl of chili or 'eggs over'; Nothing fancy here but fast food w/great service. Sit @ the counter & watch the short-order cooks do their thing. Very easy on the wallet. Buy a broom to benefit local Lions Cluvb. Good hand-dipped local ice cream, too.

Great prices on sushi, sashimi, and simply-made japanese appetizers. No hibachi room (Thank God!) We eat here regularly even though there are 6 or so sushi places within driving distance.Cheap, tasty food and its BYO beer or sake. For some strange reason its open every day EXCEPT Saturday.

Favorite Dish: Try the Super Volcano Roll. At lunch, the lunch boat is a real bargain (Cali. roll, 5pc. sushi, 4 pc sashimi & soup or salad for under $10.!)

  • Dryville Hotel: Great PA Dutch food @ low prices

by rockycomfort Written Feb 12, 2009

You know you're in Berks County Pa. when you're at this place--Simple, well-prepared food in huge, affordable portions. Seating at the bar or around the corner in an unpretentious dining room (when crowded, they open up a dreary windowless back room, try to avoid that) Several beers on tap, jug wines only, you know, a LOCAL place...but oh-so-good!

Favorite Dish: fried chicken; large chef salad has in-house cooked turkey/beef/ham chunks in it; steamed clams (Pa. Dutch staple); homemade potato filling; broccoli salad w/bacon & sugar;real burgers...this is the place.
