This town is a tourist trap, designed for day-trippers or weekenders. The original town can still be found. Just walk the canal, visit the historical society and look at the architecture. Find any spot along the Delaware River and you'll be back to the late 1700-early 1800's.
Unique Suggestions: The steam train ride during the autumn is one of New Hope's highlights though I love steam train rides anytime of the year. Same with the boat ride up the Delaware, just a relaxing break from the crowded streets of New Hope.
Fun Alternatives: Do try to go off the beaten path. Stroll down some of those dead-end lanes, visit off-season (winter/late fall/early spring), bring a picnic lunch and dine along the river or canal, stroll over the rickety bridge to Lambertville, NJ and compare the 2 tourist traps!

If there is one thing we noticed pretty consistently and heard or read elsewhere...it is that the pricing here is above the norm. We were charmed by the architecture and scale of the town, but too many of the shops were selling inconsequential souvenirs and we found no true artistic merit to any of the merchandise. Guess it's fun to "people watch" and go for lunch....we saw no packages being carried by true shoppers.

Ok.. there is no doubt that New Hope is a cool place.. lots of stores ..restaurants... but, because of its popularity.. it can tend to be a tourist trap.
Unique Suggestions: Just be smart as to what things are worth. Especially in the summer which is the peak tourist season. I am sure you can get some good deals but you have to look for them :)
Fun Alternatives: Well.. this tourist trap is fun.... and it makes for a nice day out so go and enjoy :)
