Favorite thing: The Italian American community in Philadelphia may not elect mayors any longer, but it still has some clout. "Christopher Columbus" is very much a "contested site" in history today - meaning there is a raging debate over his record and the manner in which he should be remembered. But you would never know it from this recently dedicated marker, which continues to follow the "great white man" school of interpretation. At any rate, I'm still not clear the precise relevance of Columbus to William Penn's settlement.

Favorite thing: There's some sort of nautical museum down at the ferry dock in Penn's Landing, but it's closed during the winter months.
