Rouge: Swanky Bar at Rittenhouse Square

by yooperprof Updated Feb 26, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

My friend Louise and I had a glass of wine here at dusk on a winter's eve, and engaged in some interesting people watching. The bar is arranged so that you feel you're right on top of everyone else, which can be either charming or oppressive, depending on your company, your mood, and how obnoxious your neighbors are. We had an extremely obnoixous neighbor, a loud vulgar gentleman who conducted an interminable cell phone conversation about his cat's recent surgery. (On the other hand, there was something fascinating about his vulgarity.) There was an elegant party of middle-aged ladies, making Rouge the first stop on what was obviously a regular "girl's night out." Louise and I were also amused at what seemed evidently to be a graying office boss putting the moves on his much younger secretary. The interior is a little fou-fou, so it's not everyone's taste, but great for martinis. The food here is said to be quite good as well.

Dress Code: A little dressier than other places - this is Rittenhouse Square, after all
