This restaurant offers a cozy place to enjoy good mexican food. With about 8 tables, the place is small but it offers a great vibe. My boyfriend took me there (he used to live in Phily) and I loved it. They have a menu of authentic mexican food, no liquor is offered but it is BYOB (Bring your own beer). The staff were very friendly and the portions were big enough. The 2 ceviches appetizer was great as it was the Azteca Soup (gotta try it if you like spicy food - Tomato soup with tortillas and avocado). The guacamole was delicious, but I think they should improve the salsa for the tortillas. For entree we ordered the Carne Asada with cactus salad, guacamole, mexican rice and some cheese rapped with mole on top....yummy!!!
The surrounding neighborhood is a little sketch but it is worth it to try it. BYOT-bring your own tequila & they've got the mix!
Favorite Dish: Azteca Soup - A mixed of spicy tomato soup with tortillas and avocado....just delicious if you love the spicy. The enchiladas and empanadas doradas are to die for!!!
The most authentic Mexican restaurant in the city and now there's another location in South Philly (just off of South Street).
The original on Girard is in a little bit of a questionable neighborhood, but hey, just think of it as part of the ambience!
Favorite Dish: Chicken with mole sauce. Oh my!
Also, try the appetize sampler.
Don't forget traditional desserts like flan or arroz con leche, best enjoyed with a Mexican coffee (w/ cinnamon and cloves).
It is a restaurant that you will not find a tourist near, it's a BYOB, and the food is not only outrageously good, but it's dirt cheap....and they have a mariachi during dinner.
Favorite Dish: They've got this Mexican cheese, poblano chili, and tortilla appetizer that I could eat every day, all day!
