  • Marrakesh: A Thrilling Experience

This place is amazing... located right in the middle of the action on South St. (Just 1/2 a block off South St to be exact), Marrakesh is an authentic Moroccan restaurant. The food here is great and the servers are very friendly. Make sure to bring plenty of room for all seven courses, but you probably still won't fit it all in :)

This is definitely not a place to go if you're in a hurry, so make sure to set aside the evening and take the time to soak in the experience! Bring cash, they don't take credit cards, and give yourself plenty of time to find a parking spot in the BUSY South St. area.

Not to take away from the food, but the experience, ambiance, decor and most of all the performer was what did it for me. The bellydancing was one of the finest performances I've seen!!! The dancers website can be found here: www.alimahamani.com

Favorite Dish: Carrot Salad... a delicious vegetarian dish. I've never had carrots so delicious.

    Marrakesh: Marvellously Moroccan!

by vyxxyn Written Nov 15, 2004 100 reviews

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Although this is not Morocco, this restaurant comes close, even staff are Moroccan!

Speciality: Eat with God's forks (Your hands!)
    Food quality: G R E A T !!! Authentic!!!
    Beverage quality: G O O D!!!
Ambience: Very dim lighting, cozy Moroccan sofas. Ideal for courting couples. Romantic!
(Though I thought some music pieces were annoying, maybe just not my taste).

BEWARE HOT food! Some dishes look tame especially the baked ones. There's usually hot meat stew inside, many times I scorched my fingers but it was fun!

Favorite Dish: Ask waiters for recommendations, stating your budget. I'd no clue what those names in the menu stood for. Plus the lighting is too dim to read anything, you can barely make out the face of your partner! All the dishes tasted great.

    Marrakesh: Marrakesh

Marrakesh is a Morracan family-style restaurant -- there are 7 courses and a hand washing ceremony. You eat with your hands and practically sit on the floor.. it is a lot of fun!

Favorite Dish: The carrot salad is unbelievable, and the lamb with honey and almonds is pretty good too!

    Marrakesh off Randolph & South...

by crandolph Written Aug 24, 2002 8 reviews

Marrakesh off Randolph & South if you don't mind prix fixe. For cheap yummy eats, try the Indian places around 39th & Chestnut, or the Ethiopian on Baltimore Ave near 46th, or Mirchi or Alyan's on/near South.
