Reading Terminal Market: The Best of Everything

    by Sue08080 Updated Dec 16, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Reading Terminal Market has been a Philadelphia institution for over 100 years. It's the best place in the city for baked goods, meats, produce and seafood, not to mention Amish, Chinese, Italian, and Southern cuisine.

Favorite Dish: I love the breads from the Metropolitan Bakery and the Italian food. The Chinese eatery is also excellent. A new creperie is a delicious addition to the market...breakfast crepes, entre crepes, dessert crepes, crepes a la mode...yum!

Reading Terminal Market: More Than Just Fruits and Vegetables

by VeronicaG Updated Jan 7, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Reading Terminal Market has over 80 vendors selling fruits, vegetables, honey, breads, pastries, chocolates, meats, poultry, raw oysters, flowers and even home accessories.

It also has a long list of eateries offering Philly cheesesteaks, hoagies, pizza, sandwiches and wraps, fish and ethnic foods. When coming to Philadelphia, be sure to stop at the market! It's a great place to grab a bite to eat. Although most booths do not have seating, there is a general dining area.

Reading Terminal Market is open Monday-Saturday and closed on Sundays.

    So Many Choices...

Reading Terminal Market: The Dutch Eating Place

by asturnut Updated Mar 13, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The reading terminal is full of Amish-run eateries selling all kinds of Pennsylvania-Dutch and German-American foods. Most of them are take out, but the "Dutch Eating Place" has counter seating that is always jam-packed with people chowing down to excellent inexpensive meals. Great homemade soups are available daily. Most menu items are sandwiches but a popular item is homemade chicken pot pie. Yuuuum!

Favorite Dish: homemade Apple Dumpling with cream! How about Shoo-Fly Pie? Need I say more?

Reading Terminal Market: A heaven for foodies!

    by meteorologist1 Updated Oct 19, 2014

The Reading Terminal Market is a heaven for foodies. Here you will find all sorts of cuisines, from the local Philly cheese steak to Thai and Indian food. My favorite was Beck's Cajun Cafe which serves dishes from New Orleans, such as po boys, jambalaya, gumbo, and beignets. The Reading Terminal Market is an absolute must for lunch! Note the market closes pretty early in the evening (around 5 or 6 pm), so don't plan on coming here for a late night dinner.

Favorite Dish: I had the fried oyster platter from Beck's Cajun Cafe. Absolutely delicious!

Beck's Cajun Café (among others!): Amazing variety of cheap, tasty food

by ptrim Updated Mar 30, 2012

Beck's is one of many, many stalls offering cheap, tasty food in Reading Terminal Market. I spent a week in Philly at the Convention Center, and this market was a life-saver. I needed more days to try everything!

    Staff is extremely friendly, too.

Favorite Dish: Fried cornbread! Need I say more?

    Spicy etouffe. Oh, so good...

Don't miss the Dutch Apple Dumplings at the Dutch Eating Place.

The cheeseteaks at By George! were not worth it. A bit dry and not very cheesy, with few onions. Try somewhere else.

Nanee's Kitchen in the Reading Terminal Market: Green Cardamon Lassi Heaven!

by ultimathule Updated Oct 20, 2008

Nanee's Kitchen is a Indian food stand in the fantastic Reading Terminal Market in central Philadelphia.

Favorite Dish: I ordered a chicken samosa and a green cardamon lassi (yogurt drink). The samosa was large, almost like an empanada, and so good. It was spicy and flavorful without being hot-spicy. And the green cardamon lassi was swoon-worthy. So creamy, so fresh (they're made daily) and so refreshing. The bite of the cardamon was perfectly softened by the creaminess of the yogurt. Nanee's kitchen was a highlight of this awesome market that is full of every kind of food you can imagine, from Asian BBQ to Amish pies and cookies. Noon gets a little crowded with locals on their lunch break.
