Serrano: One of my favorites!
A charming neighborhood (except on Friday and Saturday nights), great food and reasonable prices. What more could you ask for? Top it off with a very friendly staff and a cozy interior and you've got one of my favorite restaurants in Philly. It's dimly lit and a typical old northeastern city restaurant. Long and narrow inside, with small bathrooms and interesting art on the walls. But, forget all that. Come here for a great meal. The food is amazing.
Favorite Dish: Grilled Tuna served on a bed of sugarcane. Enough said.
Serrano, for spicy food from...
Serrano, for spicy food from all over the world; Bookbinder's for seafood (touristy but with good reason); the White Dog Cafe, for elegant, contemporary American; Osteria Romana (try the gnocchi with gorgonzola); Mama Yolanda's (Italian); Victor's (where the wait staff will sing arias for you); the Melrose Diner for a true South Philly cultural experience; the Pink Rose pastry shop/cafe; City Tavern for its colonial setting; cultural diversity at the Reading Terminal Market; and don't forget the sights, sounds, and rich smells (cheese, coffee, herbs, fish, etc.) of the Italian Market. Participate in the local dilemma--who has the better sfogliatelle (and other tasty Italian goodies): Isgro's or Termini's? You decide!
