Ok, I admit it. I love Lord and Taylor in Philadelphia. It is really special and after Independence Hall it is one of the first places I visit when I come to Philly. Why? First, there is the building. Lord and Taylor is set right next to City Hall in the old Wanamaker building and the outside as well as the inside look pretty stylish for a department store. The neatest thing is the lobby (can you call it lobby in a department store?) with its large eagle statue and the organ in a wall above the lobby. During pre-Christmas season, you can hear the organ playing sometimes and they actually do a neat Christmas show there with songs and pictures etc. There are two galleries around the lobby on the 2nd and 3rd floor which give you a good view over the lobby area. This place is special. I once lived in the building next to it - that was my favorite address so far ;-).
What to buy: You get good quality clothes for men, women and children both from well-known designers but also from the Lord & & Taylor brand. Good place for business costumes. On the first floor there is a section for accessoires and in the pre-Christmas season they have plenty of neat Christmas stuff. There is also a corner for Neuhaus chocolates (which are the best chocolates in the world). In the lobby they sell the shoes - really nice ones!
What to pay: Lord and Taylor is not cheap, be prepared to dig into your wallet. However, they also have their sales and specials, so you can make good deals there.
