For plant and flower-lovers, Phipps Conservatory is the place to be in Pittsburgh! Rooms full of exotic plants and beautiful displays shoot out from the central sitting area. Along with many tropical plants, they also have a Japanese garden, desert plants, butterfly garden, outdoor garden, and seeding plants. Be sure to take the time to look for the seeds; It's actually quite interesting and fun to try and find them!

They also have changing exhibits. They typically choose a theme that is featured in a few of the side gardens, as well as the area directly behind the central area where you enter. Check the website for what will be featured during your visit!

    Entrance is $12 for adults.

If you're thinking that all conservatories are alike, then thing again. The Phipps Conservatory is truly unique. There is NOTHING else quite like it. Nestled among the plants, from habitats all over the world, are pieces of multi-colored glass art. The artwork is mainly abstract, lending a rather surreal, dreamlike quality to the entire place. Somehow, it just doesn't seem quite real.

Phipps Conservatory is one of our favorite places to visit in Pittsburgh. It consists of a series of large greenhouses that house a wide variety of flowers, trees and other plants from around the world.

Phipps is a botanical garden located right behind Carnegie Mellon University. It's not a very big garden, but if plants are what you like then you might want to drop by. During early spring-summer season, Phipps has the Butterfly Forest exhibition where you can walk thru a tropical forest with hundreds and hundreds of butterflies flapping around you.
There are about 10 different rooms each with its own theme such as the Desert room, or the Fern Room, and the Victoria room.
It does cost you $3-5 a ticket to get in I believe.

This is just pretty- can be romantic, too. Not a high-action event, it is relaxing and almost magical.
