The fish in the spillway are pretty big and so close together that it sometimes looks like a snake nest.... and they are packed so solid that ducks can walk over them.
By the way fishing is absolutely forbidden directly at the spillway, only further out on the lower lake.
Not all the bread is eaten by the fish, the geese and ducks get their shares.... and in acrobatic flight stunts sea gulls catch the bread if you toss it in the air.... very spectacular!

If you go to Pymatuning, you must visit the spillway! The spillway is a small area where the water moves from one end of the lake to the next, but the fun part is all the fish and ducks that gather here. At the spillway, you can toss bread to the fish and/or ducks. It is fun to watch the fish fight over the bread and the ducks try to get the bread before the fish do. You can also throw bread into the air. Many of the ducks flying around will catch it! Children especially love the Spillway.
See the website for more information about Pymatuning State Park.

Miscellaneous: One of the most fun things to do in Pymatuning is to feed the fish and the ducks at the Spillway. In order to do this, you'll need something to feed them with! Although I suppose you could toss a lot of other types of food to them, it is recommended that you bring loaves of bread. I would recommend bringing a couple of loaves per person. Also, to make it last longer, break off little pieces instead of tossing a whole slice in at once.

Favorite thing: As I said before this park is great for viewing birds and especially Canada geese, which because of their colouring are kind of my favourite birds.... but because they are coming in large numbers on their migration routes some locals consider them a pest and don´t like seeing them fed so much...... I simply don´t care and when you throw your bread from above there is no way you can control who gets it, the fish, the geese, the ducks or the sea gulls...... it is kind of the law of nature: the strongest or fastest makes the catch!!!!
Fondest memory: All along the road to the spillway there are litlle shops or booths that sell bread which is not safe for human consumption anymore and that is what you feed to the animals, so you don´t have to bring your bread from home.
