    Primanti Brothers: All-in-one sandwich

    by countryfan1223 Updated Oct 5, 2007

While Philadelphia has its cheese steak, Pittsburgh has Primanti Brother sandwiches. The sandwiches consist of a choice of meat, with cole slaw, french fries and tomato slices on Italian bread. This is NOT for someone on a diet! It tates especially good at 2am after a night of drinking! The sandwich is a meal in itself! Some choices include: cheese steak, roast beef, tuna, fish, cappicola, egg, hot sausage and salami. Don't expect a plate because it is served on wax paper. Service is usually quick at least at all the locations I have been too. There are 13 restaurants in and around the Pittsburgh area and even Florida has 2 in Fort Lauderdale. The sandwiches are also availabe at PNC Park and Heinz Field with a limited selection of meat. If ever in the area, please experience this taste of Pittsburgh!

Favorite Dish: My favorite is the tuna sandwich

by miner Updated Sep 19, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

LaVernes is a few miles northeast from Waynesburg. It pretty well sits out in the countryside with a beautiful view. The food is excellent and plentiful, the prices are very reasonable and the service is friendly and quick. This was my favorite place to eat while we were there. It is well worth the drive.

Favorite Dish: Stuffed pork chop, mashed potatos and half order apple dumpling for desert.

    The Wooden Nickel: Buffalo, Anyone?

    by Tom_Fields Written Aug 5, 2007

Buffalo (actually, bison) used to live on the Great Plains in huge abundance. Then, they were driven almost to extinction. Under protection, they made a comeback.

But what most people don't know is that buffalo meat is really good--at least as good as beef, and leaner. The Wooden Nickel raises and slaughters its own. And, without growth hormones, anti-biotics, or close confinement, they graze on the range.

In fact, they're right outside the restaurant. A word of caution: Do not approach them. They may seem docile, but buffalo are never really tame.

    Favorite Dish: The buffalo burgers.

I don't care what anyone says about DENNY'S because Hans and I love these restaurants. As we are "Seniors" we can choose from the Senior's menu which is always a great price and delicious home-cooked meals.
Dinner sides are as follows: baked potato, country-fried potatoes, french fries, hash browns, mashed potatoes, applesauce, cinnamon apples, coleslaw, corn, cottage cheese, green beans, onion rings, stuffing and gravy or vegetable rice pilaf. You have your choice of two sides.

Favorite Dish: Hans picked the Roast Turkey Dinner, which came with generous slices of turkey breast, with stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and a wonderful garden salad.
I had the Grilled Chicken, which was a generous portion of chicken breast, served with baked potato, corn and garden salad.

Featuring country style dinners, BOB EVANS offers breakfast, lunch & dinner for singles, families and seniors -- all cooked to order. It's a casual, inexpensive place to dine and you really do get a decent meal. The entrees that they offer remind me of a home cooked meal. The restaurant was within walking distance of our hotel, so we went there for breakfast in the morning. At 7 a.m. it was already very busy with locals and tourists alike. You could smell the aroma of fresh-brewed coffee as soon as you walked in. Hans and I both had the seniors breakfast which was plenty to eat and delicious.

    Rembrants: Fab Food in Philly

by kazander Updated Apr 12, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We were in the Fairmount district of Philadelphia where we had heard there were great places to eat that were not too far away from our hotel. There were many to choose from and we needed guidance. So once again we asked a local for some dining advice and we were amptly rewarded. Rembrant's has a delightful cuisine in a nice atmosphere. They hold a lot of events, including live music, though there was none when we visited.

Favorite Dish: The Filet Mignon was quite delicious, as was the Portobello salad.

    Denny's: too greasy for me

by kazander Written Mar 24, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Lou is a huge fan of Denny's, a chain of breakfast/lunch restaurants in the area that are open into the wee hours of the morning, if not 24 hrs. Not unlike IHOP in theory, but everything I've ever had at Denny's feels like it was soaking in grease before it was brought out to the table. I'm not such a fan.

Geno's is another famous spot for cheesesteaks and is hard to miss with all the neon! Here you will find a comparable cheesesteak to Pat's, with a clean eating area. Drinks sold are Coco-Cola products.

Pat's King of Steaks: The Cheesesteak

by Jacquelynn Updated Jul 6, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Pat's is one of the famous places to order a cheesesteak. It's rival "Geno's" is directly across the street. Try them both and pick your favorite!

In my experience, a cheesesteak here is very tasty and messy. Seating outside was limited and could have been cleaned more often.

Favorite Dish: The cheesesteak. Thinly sliced steak with your choice of onions, mushrooms, peppers, cheese...etc. Get it here with your favorite Pepsi products.

    Primanti's: Awsome Sandwich

by JCiroli Written Sep 19, 2002

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Sandwich includes fries and slaw...on the sandwich. These were created for truck drivers making deliveries in The Strip and they needed one hand to drive and one to eat the entire meal. So they put it all on the sandwich.

    Favorite Dish: Cheesteak!

This building dates back probably 40 or 50 years.
