5 ReviewsMany people call the Liberty Bell a tourist trap, but I cannot help but think it is because of the time spent waiting in line. After all, there is no charge for visiting the Liberty Bell.

2 ReviewsYou will arrive at this famous museum far away from any civilization in the city, just to find crowds, traffic, and bad exibits, such as a black line painted accross a painting.

1 ReviewThe house is pretty small and there is not much to see. In addition, historians disagree on Ross's role with the flag. If you have time see it, if not take a picture from the outside of the house and...
1 ReviewElfred's Alley is certainly worth having a peek at with its all too well preserved row of typical homes from the 1700's, but there are lots of great old buildings scattered around the city with less...

Free tickets, long queues
For a visit to Independence Hall you need a ticket that is distributed on a daily basis by Visitors Center. Of course during summer months with those hundred thousands of pupils and organised tours it is almost impossible to obtain a ticket after noon for the same day. I was at around 10.00 a.m. on ordinary week day in the mid-May and there was no tickets for the same day. I was advised to ask Park Rangers at the entrance to let me in with a group and it worked. But before that you will have to pass a careful search of you luggage (security reason).
Of course you may also reserve a free ticket via a website but it costs money (not much but anyway it costs...)

Penn Hills Resort Poconos is a joke!!
by jessica1
Please do not be fooled by the website for Penn Hills Resort in the Poconos. Although my weekend there was entertaining and tons of laughs.... this place was completely outdated!! they had rugs on the walls and mirror tint on the ceilings... you almost need to go check this out and just drive by to believe all of this. The service is absolutely horrible, the food takes about 2 hours to get after you ordered it!! forget about trying to get your waitor/waitress to come and bring you some drinks and actually take your order. This place was the biggest joke i have ever seen. Do not book a getaway to this resort anytime soon... unless you want to take a stroll down memory lane and relive the 60's.
Just dont even bother going here... check into the other resorts around the area... i hear that caesars is amazing and the service is unbelievable... you will get what you paid for there. Penn...
Dress like the Amish
by Martin_S.
Don't be caught dead taking your picture with all the hick tourists...well unless you are taking a picture for your VT pages of course, then it is allowed. That short neckless Amish person is my daughter, they had only ADULT Amish, wonder where all the kids were, I mean with no cars, no phones, television, computers, bars, discos or other intertainments, that should mean LOTS of kids and making more as soon as the sun goes down, I mean what else is there to do ?
Cheesy "Romantic" hotels in the Poconos
by kazander
Anyone remember those ridiculous commercials for Mt. Airy Lodge, with the champagne shaped jacuzzi? Well that stuff is real all right. Overpriced nonsense that makes you feel as though you stepped back into the 70's (this was probably the last time most of these rooms were redone as well) It was just sort of sad and pathetic. Not that I stayed in Mt Airy...I think the name was Penn's Hills... For a small fee they'll add an awful breakfast that you have to eat in an awful cafeteria. Now it was romantic because I was there with my sweetheart, but any Motel 6 or Econo lodge would've done.I have never stayed in the Caesar's in the photo. I included the pic for the champagne glass jacuzzi reference. My info is based on Penn's Hills where we stayed.
There are some nicer resorts in the area I have yet to check out. The Fernwood resort looked quite lovely.
I guess it is because I live...

I guess it is because I live here that I consider this Lancaster area a tourist trap. Amish are private people and do not enjoy the intrusive buses and cars that drive by them with people staring and taking pictures. Many of the businesses take advantage of the culture here and sell their goods to duplicate and represent the Amish traditions and belongings. The way to get the best price on buying a quilt is to find out who made the design you like and then talk to the individual. Sometimes the price can be half or better than what the stores are asking.
