A view of the cycle/hiking path area at Blackwell.
You can see Judy and Mary in the background. Just after I took this picture, Mary let out a loud yell! she had had an encounter with some North American wildlife! I never saw it, but Judy said it was just a "li'l old grass snake", hahaha. Mary said it was HUGE, hahah.
The Pine Creek Trail travels along the floor of Pine Creek Gorge, which is one of the most spectacular natural areas in Pennsylvania. Pine Creek Gorge is often referred to at the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, and was recognised as a National Natural landmark in 1968 (See my Leonard Harrison State Park page).
Hire a Bike - If you can reach it!!
From Waterville (and beyond) there is a fairly new cycle and hiking path, which follows the route of an old Railroad Freight line, long since abandoned. The 62-mile long trail is being opened in sections, and currently the trail runs for over 42 miles, from Ansonia to Waterville, and, naturally, it is all fairly easy going along the old trackbed.
We walked along part of the track, really to exercise Judy's dog, and I found this strange dwelling, with what looked like a bicycle hanging from the trees. It WAS a bicycle!! And from here you can hire your bike to take you along the picturesque track!
