Cinnabon: Maryland House by b1bob Cinnabon is a multinational chain of kiosks (usually in malls, but sometimes in airports) where they serve up cinnamon buns and hot coffee.
My first experience with Cinnabon was at Chicago O'Hare airport when I had a layover between flights from Richmond and to Los Angeles. I had never heard of a place that sold essentially just cinnamon buns. They were extremely good. I guess the old saying do one thing and do it well applies here. The picture here was taken at the Maryland House Service Centre. If you look in the lower left, you will see my boss paying for his purchase on a rest stop as we rode on to New Jersey for a business trip. Häagen-Dazs: Glen Allen, VA by b1bob Häagen-Dasz is a chain of ice cream parlours and a line of ice cream products across the USA and in some other countries. This ice cream is a little richer in terms of taste and located largely on the snooty side of town.
I like the chocolate with chocolate chips in a chocolate cone. Lee had the same flavour of ice cream, but took it in a bowl. If you're going to splurge on food, it's always best to do it on dessert. Leave a Comment

In 1954, James McLamore and David Edgerton opened the first Burger King restaurant stand (Burger King of Miami) at 3090 NW 36th Street in Miami. They initially sold 18 cent broiled hamburgers and milkshakes. The Whopper, which appears in 1957, would sell for 37 cents. When Burger King expanded, they tried to distinguish themselves by flame broiling their hamburgers and having onion rings as a side. At present (2005), they have a series of commercials where a somewhat scarey looking king statue appears to people. It's weird and probably not very successful as an ad. My husband likes Burger King better than McDonalds. Some of them also have play rooms for the kids like McDonalds has.
Lunch for the two of us is about $9.00. They have in addition to the signature Whopper, chicken, fish, salads, and subs. Leave a Comment

a great experience indeed! by shivan USA offers you any kind of food, bu traveling often brings problems if what you eat is not what you are USED to eat. If you are weak at stomach, then, avoid strange toppings or mustards, and enjoy the common, usual, stupid, marvellous, gigantic BURGER!!! The biggest I had was in Kayenta, AZ. It was called the MONUMENT BURGER!!! Leave a Comment

Cici's Pizza by b1bob Cici's Pizza is better than most pizza chains because for $3.95 a pop, you can get an all-you-can-eat pizza, salad, and pasta bar. They are located across 26 states from Pennsylvania through to New Mexico.
After the salad, my first go was to the pasta bar where I had ziti alfredo. I went twice more for pizza, first trying the florentine pizza (for folks in Roxboro: it has spinach). Then I tried the Hawaiian (ham and pineapple), and the taco pizza. Leave a Comment

I first became aware of Boston Chicken about 10 years ago. It is a kind of a cross between a chain cafeteria and a fast food place. Shortly after I saw the first Boston Chicken, they changed their name to Boston Market. You can eat in the restaurant, but the food is marketed for you to get a whole dinner and then take it home to eat. There is one Boston Market that is in Crofton in a building that used to be a Roy Rogers and it has a drive-in (pictured), but most that I've seen you have to get out of your car and go in.
The last time I ate there, it was a Saturday where I had been to see my mom and I got meatloaf (which I love but very seldom get), mac and cheese (sort of gouey here), and creamed spinach (which I don't make because it is too much trouble, but reminds me very much of my mom's homemade spinach soup). I love all the vegetables that are available here - it is hard to choose. I got lemonade to drink. If there is a weakness in the menu it is in the dessert end. I like my desserts. I sometimes get one of the apple side things for dessert. Otherwise all they have are cookies. Whenever I eat at a franchise restaurant - i.e. one that is in more than one location - I am writing the tip under the United States. I remember when I saw my first McDonalds. The golden arches at that time had a signboard that said they'd sold over a million hamburgers and the arches were down at street level. Gradually the chain expanded until every town or hamlet has a McDonalds and the sign is high in the air. If you are traveling with children, the Play Places that most McDonald's have are a good way for the kids to get the wiggles out, especially on a rainy or very cold day. Now some other franchises have copied this concept with their own play areas. Most McDonalds also have drive-through windows. There are 5 of them within 10 miles of my house - the closest is 2.5 miles north of Leonardtown. The web address below will look up any zip code and tell you where the nearest Mickey D's is and how to get there. (Mickey D is one of the McDonald's nicknames.) Now McDonalds in other countries too. People speak disparagingly McDonalds, but they do what they do well. Although they seem to be cookie cutter restaurants, I actually have preferences - I almost never go to the one in Solomons for instance because the food there makes me sick.
I like the Egg McMuffin, the plain cheap double cheeseburgers from the dollar menu, apple pies, and McFlurries. I also like the Big Mac, the chicken McNuggets, the BBQ sandwiches which they have in the fall and the green mint milkshakes around St. Patrick's day. McDonalds also was one of the first to have thin french fries. Leave a Comment

Outback Steakhouse is a chain of Australian-themed restaurants across most of the fruited plain (United States). They really carry the Australian theme to the hilt in the atmosphere and in the names of the dishes such as Bloomin Onion, Gold Coast Coconut Shrimp, Alice Springs Chicken, Ayers Rock Strip, etc. The extend the Aussie humour to the loo, a.k.a. "Used Beer Dept." The service is normally prompt and friendly. Like some other chain restaurants, they do carside takeaway.
For the appetisers, I am not terribly impressed with the Bloomin Onion, but I do like the coconut shrimp (6 big shrimp dipped in beer batter, rolled in coconut, deep fried, with sweet and spicy marmalade sauce on the side, you can get it entree sized. For entrees, I have had worse steaks, but I have also had better. I rather like chicken on the barbie (for those in Roxboro, that is not chicken served on a plastic doll: rather it is seasoned and grilled chicken breast served with barbecue sauce and fresh vegetables). The dessert is, perhaps, the best of all. The chocolate thunder from down under is the best of the lot. It is a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream decorated with chocolate sauce and chocolate shavings. Overall, the Outback is okay. However, it is ironic that I prefer their chicken and shrimp over their signature dish (steaks). For steaks, I would prefer Lone Star. Leave a Comment

My buddies Bill and Lee took supper with me at the location in Richmond's West End at the intersection of West Broad Street and Horsepen Road. O'Charley's is a chain of restaurants (found across much of the east: from Michigan through to Florida; Louisiana to Virginia) that take on the theme of an Irish bar and grill similar to Bennigan's, but they have a menu similar to that of Applebee's. The service was lightning fast. We had barely finished our appetiser when the entree came. The portions were so large that dessert was out of the question.
Bill, Lee, and I started with the Best of O'Charley's Combo Appetizer which consists of pepper Jack cheese wedges, chicken tenders and overloaded potato skins with Dijon mustard sauce, O'Charley's sauce, and sour cream. For the entree, I chose from the create your own combo menu. For one set price, you can choose two meats, a side dish, and a soup or salad. Since I lost a bunch of weight I want to keep off, I chose a more sensible combination: the grilled chicken and shrimp, rice pilaf, and a salad. Everything was good that time, but nothing to write home about: really par for an American chain restaurant. Later on, I went back and had the whiskey steak sandwich which consists of two pieces of sirloin cooked to order, topped with roasted red peppers, crisp bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, lightly fried sweet onion rings and whiskey teriyaki sauce served on Ciabatta bread. by SexyRedLips This restaurant is located in Encinitas, CA. It is an is an authentic steakhouse grille featuring open beam ceilings, a mahogany long bar, and a ceiling to floor fire place. You can relax in the afternoon with a burger & beer watching your favorite football team, and return that evening for a full seafood dinner while listening to your favorite Rhythm and Blues. The prices are average and the food is EXCELLENT!
