Normally, I'm not keen on fast food chains. Popeye's Chicken is not named for the cartoon character, but rather from Popeye Doyle from the French Connection, so spinach is not on the menu. Popeye's has franchises across the United States except in the states of Montana, New Hampshire, North and South Dakota, Utah, and Vermont. The specialty of the house is chicken done the New Orleans way with sides and desserts.
Usually, I like to try the classic mild chicken (there is New Orleans spicy for those who like their bird with a little kick) with either Cajun rice or red beans and rice on the side. Occasionally, I like the popcorn shrimp. The spicy version is firecracker shrimp. Leave a Comment

pictures from the car by grandmaR My Miami daughter decided that we'd all go out to dinner at P.F. Changs. The problem was that it was so late and so crowded that we had to wait to be seated. And then it took us awhile to wade through the menu and decide what we wanted, and then we had to wait to be served. So it wasn't at all a fast meal and the kids (ages 2 and 8) got a bit antsy. Frankly so did I. My granddaughter spent time climbing on the pink columns (As soon as you approach the restaurant, you as you are greeted by two larger-than-life lions guarding the door.) outside while we were waiting. Being quite naive, I did not realize that P.F. Changs was a chain or franchise. It apparently started in Scottsdale AZ when Paul Fleming, who started out as a Ruth's Chris Steak House franchisee couldn't find a good Chinese restaurant. From an interview about Paul Fleming: "One of the things that's different from a traditional Chinese restaurant is that 20% of our sales come from liquor, and 10% of that is wine. Paul offered about a 40-bottle wine list and everything was available by the glass. It really raised the bar, giving the restaurant kind of a steakhouse feel." I felt it was quite expensive, although the bill for the 6 of us was only $103.69 including tax and tip. But my toddler granddaughter really can't be counted in the total.
I don't remember what I had, but from their menu Chang's Recommends (All entrées served with a choice of steamed brown or white rice) CHANG' S SPICY CHICKEN Lightly dusted and stir-fried in a sweet Sichuan sauce. (Our version of General Chu's) $10.95 * I may have had this as it is my favorite* MOO GOO GAI PAN P.F. Chang's version of the classic Cantonese dish with chicken and shrimp. $10.95 MONGOLIAN BEEF Quickly cooked steak with scallions and garlic. $11.95 ORANGE PEEL CHICKEN Tossed with orange peel and chili peppers for a spicy/citrus combination. $10.95 CRISPY HONEY SHRIMP Lightly battered and quick-fried with a flavorful sauce. $12.95 CANTONESE SCALLOPS OR SHRIMP Stir-fried with garlic, yellow chives and snow peas. $12.25 CANTONESE ROASTED DUCK Served with steamed wheat buns, cucumbers, scallions, plum and hoisin sauces. $12.95 GINGER CHICKEN WITH BROCCOLI Served Cantonese-style on a bed of fresh steamed broccoli. $10.75 MANGO CHICKEN Stir-fried chicken with mangoes, onions, bean sprouts and carrots. $10.95 Leave a Comment Theme: Chinese/Dim SumPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageDirections: Check with the website to find the locations. Current Taco Bell logo by grandmaR Taco Bell started out west as a restaurant called Taco Tia. The food is sort of Mexican in type. But if you ever compare the chalupa in Taco Bell to one in a Mexican restaurant you will see that they are not the same at all. Most people remember the talking Chihuahua when they think of Taco Bell. What I remember though is that the logo used to have more colors in it. In addition to red, purple, yellow, and white they used to also have orange and green Then they tried to open a location in Middleburg VA, and Middleburg had rules about display signs so that no one would put up a tasteless sign - their rule was no more than 3 colors. So Taco Bell changed their logo.
I do like the chalupas at Taco Bell more than the regular ones at Mexican restaurants. I also like the Mexican pizza, and the 7 layer burrito. They don't have much in the way of dessert except the choco taco. Leave a Comment

Apple Sizzler with Bob's spoon a blur $3.99 by grandmaR, 4 more photos According to the website: "When D. Bennigan came to America from his native Ireland, he looked for places like the taverns of his homeland. Places where he could relax with family and friends.." Also on their website under "Fun Stuff" is "NEW!!! DOWNLOAD BENNIGAN'S RADIO COMMERCIALS!!! "The Irish spirit celebrates even the smallest things. So do Bennigan's popular new radio ads set to Irish "pub songs" about life's little bonuses that are worth raising a glass to... "COMPUTER RESTART -- "Oh Mary was word processing as happy as can be, when she clicked the mouse a bit too much and locked up her PC. She thought her computer dead and gone and she was broken-hearted, but everything was fine and dandy after she restarted...."
While we were in Miami, we stopped for lunch at a shopping center and ate at Bennigan's I had the half sandwich/cup of soup selection, and I picked a corned beef sandwich and broccoli cheese soup. I had the Apple Sizzler ($3.99) for desert. Bob had the American burger. The burger and my sandwich/soup were both $6.29 each and we both drank iced tea. Our total bill was $21.66 The pictures show the sign over the entrance door, and part of the interior. The photo of the main menu has a hamburger with a steak knife stuck in it with a Killian's sign in the back. I fail to see why having to eat a hamburger with a knife it is is a good thing. There are also pictures of food including the Apple Sizzler. Bob's spoon is a blur as he eats the apple sizzler. Leave a Comment

I've decided to put chain restaurants under the USA because their location is not that important since you can find them in a whole lot of places. I actually ate at Ruth's Cris in Toronto. I didn't feel like going out to eat the first night there. I had seen the Ruth's Cris in Baltimore when I was commuting, so I decided that this would be a good opportunity to try it out.
The food was pretty good, but very expensive and not overwhelming in quantity. My dinner cost $51.19 Canadian ($58.87 including tip) and I was trying very hard to get the price down to where it would be paid for by my expense account. I had fresh asparagus ($7.95CD), petit filet ($27.95CD), hot tea, hot rolls and amaretto freeze ($6.30CD). The total in USD was $40.48. Leave a Comment

TV screens inside Damons in Lexington Park by grandmaR, 4 more photos Damons is a DirecTV Sunday ticket restaurant where you can watch multiple games on a whole wall of TV, or play trivia and at the same time eat ribs or chicken or steak or seafood in company of your closest 200 friends. They also sell sauces and sports items on the internet. They are open for both lunch and dinner and have happy hour specials.
Ribs and steaks. BBQ chicken. I usually get one or the other. The desserts are also good. My first visit to this chain was after I broke 4 ribs in an auto accident, my workmates at my office gave me a gift certificate for a dinner here. My current preoccupation, now that we have a local Damon's is that they have an interactive trivia game, which I'm addicted to. My daughter and grandchildren came here on Tuesday late, and they were out of children's menus. They have children's night on Tuesday and one of the four screens has cartoons. There's a sound system at the table so you can hear whichever screen you are watching. But while they brought our granddaughter's food, they didn't bring the rest of us anything - they forgot. We eventually got something to eat - for free. Another night when we went we both had the half rack of ribs ($13.11). Last time we were there (2008), I got a skillet dinner so I could eat with one hand and then also a spoon dessert (photo 5) Leave a Comment Theme: BarbecuePrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: Check the website for the Damons nearest you. Hard Rock Cafe has the best Nachos that I ever had in my life. It is made with roasted corn, grilled red peppers, black beans, mounded Jack and Cheddar cheese melted to perfection. Topped off with green onions and sour cream and served with a side of fresh made salsa and guacamole. The drinks such as Piña Colada, Margaritas, Martinis etc.. are good also. This restaurant chain is not only in the US and Canada but in various other locations world wide. I've eaten in one in Nassau - has the same menu and about the same prices as in the US. One of my grandsons when he was 3 had the habit of yelling "OUTBACK" pause "STEAKHOUSE" whenever he was in a restaurant, even if it wasn't Outback Steakhouse, which was somewhat embarrassing. They have a children's menu which is a bit more extensive than burgers and chicken nuggets, and they now also do take-out. When one opens in a location, they are always mobbed, so we try to go really early and especially not on Friday night.
I like their steaks, and prime rib. My daughter and her husband usually get the Prime Minister's Prime Rib and share. She gets her 4 yo daughter the mac and cheese. Leave a Comment
