KFC in Aberdeen, Ohio by Stephen-KarenConn NOTE: For my USA restaurant tips I am including only those restaurants that can be found nationwide. Therefore, a large proportion of these will be the fast food chains. With more than 11,000 restaurants in 80 different countries and territories worldwide, KFC is an international restaurant chain. I have personally eaten at KFC in locales from Taipei to Haiti. Yet, it would be difficult to find a restaurant or a recipe more thoroughly American than Kentucky Fried Chicken. Colonel Harlan Sanders began the first KFC in Corbin, Kentucky in 1939, featuring pressure fried chicken seasoned with a secret blend of 11 herbs and spices. That recipe is still a closely guarded secret. More than 65 years later it is my opinion that the Colonel's original recipe has never been beat. Because of the speed of Sander's pressure-cooking process, KFC became the first "fast food" in America. KFC is not the place to go for a fancy meal, but if you are looking for great food at a low price I don't know of a better place to eat. For more information about the fascinating life of Colonel Harland Sanders and his first restaurant, see my Kentucky Restaurant pages. Logo and pizza slices (not from Dominos) by grandmaR Dominos has always been a pick up or delivery pizza place. I don't know if any Dominos stores are eat in. I don't like to pay for delivery. Their logo is a red and blue domino. I don't know what relation a domino has to pizza. The picture has the logo from their website, and a part of a coupon for Dominos from Nassau, on a piece of pizza from a local restaurant (not Dominos) in Marathon FL. The pizza has spinach in it, which I don't think is a Domino's option.
They have the three kinds of crust (hand tossed, thin and crispy and deep dish) with various toppings, and then they have buffalo wings, breadsticks, cheesy bread and cinna-sticks. We usually just get a cheese pizza. If I'm ordering for myself, I get pineapple and ham on mine too. This used to be called a Hawaiian pizza. The smallest size pizza is too much for me to eat so it is fortunate that I like cold pizza for breakfast. I once blew the mind of an airport security person by walking onto the plane with a brown bag containing my pizza dinner leftovers from the night before. (This was before airlines were cutting down on the meals they served you so it wasn't as common then.) Leave a Comment

sidebar logo from their website by grandmaR This is apparently a chain which our friends were familiar with. They have 75 restaurants in Midwest and Southeast in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Illinois, North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia. The Company also franchises five restaurants in St. Louis, Missouri, the Columbus, Cleveland and Dayton, Ohio airports and on the Ohio Turnpike. This is a dark wood /steakhouse/bar kind of place. Burgers, chicken, soups, salads and entrees. A food reviewer says: "The buffalo chicken sandwhich is awesome and don't forget the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies for dessert!" Max & Erma's Standard Hours of Operation: Monday-Thursday: 11:00am-11:00pm Friday-Saturday: 11:00am-12:00am Sunday: 11:00am-10:00pm
Food was good, but I don't remember much else about it. They have burgers, steak and BBQ. I think I might have had something like: ERMA'S MEATLOAF A thick slice of homemade meatloaf and mashed potatoes smothered in our rich gravy. Served with buttered corn. $9.29 The total bill for the two of us was $30.22 including the tip. Leave a Comment

Bob and menu and order counter in Key West by grandmaR According to the website: "Our founder, Gus Boulis, emmigrated from Greece in 1968 to begin a long career of developing and operating successful projects in the restaurant industry. In 1983, Mr. Submarine, a new upscale sandwich shop, opened in Key West, Florida. By the mid-eighties, this successful concept evolved to eventually give birth to Miami Subs Grill. Its new name better reflected the quality of food, variety of menu items, and the appeal of fresh food cooked to order. " Now they have franchises all over the Florida, plus Indiana, MN, NJ, NY, NC, SC, TN and Puerto Rico. In the early 90's, Miami Subs Grill partnered with Baskin Robbins. They added Arthur Treachers, and were themselves taken over by Nathan's Famous in 1999. The art-deco / neon exterior was featured in the intro to "Miami Vice". In addition to hot and cold subs, they have gyros, pitas, Greek salad, hamburgers, chicken breasts, ice cream and other desserts. They fix everything fresh so it's not as quick a fast food as many of them.
Tuna Pita and Key Lime Pie. You can eat in or drive in and take out. Leave a Comment

Collage of food by grandmaR Popeyes started in New Orleans by Al Copeland as a regular fried chicken place and added Cajun spices to distinguish themselves from other fast food fried chicken places. Now they have restaurants all over the US and in some foreign countries. Al Copeland is now a very rich man - in addition to the Popeye's chain, he has * Copeland's Famous New Orleans Restaurant and Bar in New Orleans, * Copeland's Cheesecake Bistros (which have a full menu and not just cheesecake), one of which just opened in Richmond, VA, * Diversified Foods and Seasonings (a food processing company which is comprised of spice blending/packaging facilities in Metairie, Louisiana, as well as San Antonio, Texas; cooking operations in Metairie and Madisonville Louisiana, and a flour blending/packing operation in Theodore, Alabama which does such things as Honey B-B-Q Style Black Beans, Shrimp Etouffee, Louisiana Seafood Gumbo and Roasted Corn Chowder under several labels), * Mariner's Village Marina, * Improv (several locations) * Jukebox Cajan Diner and several hotels in New Orleans. There is a Popeyes, a Taco Bell and a Boston Market all right next to each other in the median of Maryland Route 3 in Crofton, and sometimes I go to one and sometimes to another.
I go to Popeyes mostly for the sides - particularly the red beans and rice. The Cajun battered fries are also good. The last time I went I tried the shrimp basket, and the honey wings. I liked both. I also had the New Orleans cheesecake which I thought was undistinguished. Popeye's desserts are their weak point IMHO I haven't tried any of the Po' Boy sandwiches yet but they look good. The Old Spaghetti Factory by TropicGirl77 These restaurants have a busy-ness about them, yet very casual and quite affordable. Nice enough to have a "date" and casual enough to have a family meal.
I love many items on their menu, but my favorite has got to be the Breast of Chicken Fettuccini because I love white sauces, and their balsamic dressing is also very good. You get as many small loaves of bread as you like with your meal, served with butter or garlic butter. Delicious! The Original Pancake House by b1bob Based in Oregon, Original Pancake House is a chain restaurant in about half of the 50 U.S. States. This restaurant is especially busy on weekend mornings like that of 22 March when Mark and I took breakfast here on our way to Asheville. Young wealthy folks called yuppies frequent this rather inexpensive restaurant in Charlotte's Southpark neighbourhood.
I ordered the Spanish omelet because I was reasonably hungry. Knowing that Mark and I had a full day ahead of us in Asheville, I ordered something rather big. The omelet was big enough to feed the whole of Mecklenburg County and parts of Union. Mark had the plain waffle and 2 scrambled eggs.
