Damon's Grill: Ribs and Sports

by grandmaR

Damons is a DirecTV Sunday ticket restaurant where you can watch multiple games on a whole wall of TV, or play trivia and at the same time eat ribs or chicken or steak or seafood in company of your closest 200 friends. They also sell sauces and sports items on the internet. They are open for both lunch and dinner and have happy hour specials. Ribs and steaks. BBQ chicken. I usually get one or the other. The desserts are also good.My first visit to this chain was after I broke 4 ribs in an auto accident, my workmates at my office gave me a gift certificate for a dinner here. My current preoccupation, now that we have a local Damon's is that they have an interactive trivia game, which I'm addicted to. My daughter and grandchildren came here on Tuesday late, and they were out of children's menus. They have children's night on Tuesday and one of the four screens has cartoons. There's a...

Chesapeake Bagel Bakery: "Real" Bagels

by grandmaR

This chain started in 1981 in the Washington D.C. area and appears to be nationwide now. They make bagels "full scratch" which means that all the bagels are made on site from scratch and the dough isn't shipped in from somewhere else. I have not eaten here in some time, because I regard it as relatively expensive. Unfortunately their menu section of their page is not operational right now. IIRC they have bagels and bagel sandwiches along with various drinks.

Outback Steakhouse: No Rules

by grandmaR

This restaurant chain is not only in the US and Canada but in various other locations world wide. I've eaten in one in Nassau - has the same menu and about the same prices as in the US. One of my grandsons when he was 3 had the habit of yelling "OUTBACK" pause "STEAKHOUSE" whenever he was in a restaurant, even if it wasn't Outback Steakhouse, which was somewhat embarrassing. They have a children's menu which is a bit more extensive than burgers and chicken nuggets, and they now also do take-out.When one opens in a location, they are always mobbed, so we try to go really early and especially not on Friday night. I like their steaks, and prime rib. My daughter and her husband usually get the Prime Minister's Prime Rib and share. She gets her 4 yo daughter the mac and cheese.

Miami Grill & Subs: Pitas and Subs

by grandmaR

According to the website: "Our founder, Gus Boulis, emmigrated from Greece in 1968 to begin a long career of developing and operating successful projects in the restaurant industry. In 1983, Mr. Submarine, a new upscale sandwich shop, opened in Key West, Florida. By the mid-eighties, this successful concept evolved to eventually give birth to Miami Subs Grill. Its new name better reflected the quality of food, variety of menu items, and the appeal of fresh food cooked to order. " Now they have franchises all over the Florida, plus Indiana, MN, NJ, NY, NC, SC, TN and Puerto Rico. In the early 90's, Miami Subs Grill partnered with Baskin Robbins. They added Arthur Treachers, and were themselves taken over by Nathan's Famous in 1999. The art-deco / neon exterior was featured in the intro to "Miami Vice". In addition to hot and cold subs, they have gyros, pitas, Greek salad, hamburgers,...

Max and Erma's: Midwestern Steak and Hamburgers

by grandmaR

This is apparently a chain which our friends were familiar with. They have 75 restaurants in Midwest and Southeast in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Illinois, North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia. The Company also franchises five restaurants in St. Louis, Missouri, the Columbus, Cleveland and Dayton, Ohio airports and on the Ohio Turnpike. This is a dark wood /steakhouse/bar kind of place. Burgers, chicken, soups, salads and entrees.A food reviewer says:"The buffalo chicken sandwhich is awesome and don't forget the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies for dessert!"Max & Erma's Standard Hours of Operation:Monday-Thursday: 11:00am-11:00pm Friday-Saturday: 11:00am-12:00am Sunday: 11:00am-10:00pm Food was good, but I don't remember much else about it. They have burgers, steak and BBQ. I think I might have had something like:ERMA'S MEATLOAFA thick slice of homemade meatloaf...

Carrabbas Italian Grille: Franchise Italian

by grandmaR

This is apparently another chain that I hadn't heard about. The website says:"Restaurant Size: 6,300 square feet including dining room and bar area seating approximately 246 guests. Patio areas available. "Interior Design: Earth-toned colors and warm, welcoming decor featuring vintage and contemporary Carrabba family photographs, and memorabilia. "They do have photos of the family all over the place."Exterior Design: A lush rooftop garden complete with trees, shrubs and flowering vines. "That's kind of what I remember too.The photo was taken from my car in a traffic jam on US Route 301. I haven't eaten at this Carrabbas - I think it is new. I don't remember seeing it before. Dinner for the two of us with tax and tip was $36.78 I don't remember what I had. Probably pasta. This is what the website says:"Calamari, chicken marsala, steamed mussels, homemade lasagne and pizza baked in a...

Boston Market: Originally there was only Chicken in Boston

by grandmaR

I first became aware of Boston Chicken about 10 years ago. It is a kind of a cross between a chain cafeteria and a fast food place. Shortly after I saw the first Boston Chicken, they changed their name to Boston Market. You can eat in the restaurant, but the food is marketed for you to get a whole dinner and then take it home to eat. There is one Boston Market that is in Crofton in a building that used to be a Roy Rogers and it has a drive-in (pictured), but most that I've seen you have to get out of your car and go in. The last time I ate there, it was a Saturday where I had been to see my mom and I got meatloaf (which I love but very seldom get), mac and cheese (sort of gouey here), and creamed spinach (which I don't make because it is too much trouble, but reminds me very much of my mom's homemade spinach soup). I love all the vegetables that are available here - it is hard to choose.I...

Bennigan's Irish American Grill & Tavern: America's Irish
