The statue of Rebecca (named for the biblical Rebekah-at-the-well), stands proudly at the intersection of four Old Harbor roads. she was erected in 1896 by the local Women's Christian Temperance Movement, which hoped to curb the consumption of alcahol on Block Island. Ironically, restoration experts have concluded that Rebecca is in fact Hebe, cupbearere to the Gods, which may explain why tea-totalling never caught on, at least not here on BI. The statue was recast in 2001.

Secluded beaches on BLOCK ISLAND

We aren't into big beaches with hundreds of people, so we choose the more secluded areas just below one of the hotels in town.
You would have to click on the photo to see the people on the beach below the porch.

Views like this are common along the way... Hop on your bike, or rent one... motor along on a moped... or take a hike away from town.
