Coventry Things to Do

  • Newport Vineyards Wine Tasting and Tour

If you visiting Newport, you need to stop at Newport Vineyards. It's on rt 138, just a couple of miles north of the the Newport bridge. For $5 you can sample a variety of their wines, and keep the glass when you're through. Case club members (which we are) can taste their wines for free. They also have public tours twice daily.

  • Check Out Battleship Cove in Fall River

Fall River is about 25 minutes east of Providence. If you come to the area and have an interest in war history, you've got to stop at Battleship Cove. We've been there over a half-dozen times. The Battleship Massachusetts is the primary attraction here, but they also have the Destroyer Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr, a Balao-class submarine, USS Lionfish, a...

  • Providence Waterfire

This event takes place in downtown Providence on most Saturday nights from May to October. The WaterFire is a free event which centers on bonfires that blaze just above the surface of the three rivers that pass through the middle of the city. It's a great place to just hang out, have a drink, listen to music, and see the illumination of the rivers....

Coventry Restaurants

  • Next to the Hampton Inn

This place was just across the parking lot from the Hampton Inn and easy to get to Bob had his usual - a half rack of DOUBLE-GLAZED BABY BACK RIBSseasoned and slow-cooked to flavorful and tender perfection with your choice of sauce. Served with fries and cole slaw.I had a cranberry juice and the four cheese grilled sandwich with a cup of tomato...

  • Cheap, Roadtrip Breakfast

Our last visit to Coventry was an overnight stop before heading off to our nephew's Christening in Warwick. We decided to stop at Denny's for a good breakfast before heading out of town; the free hotel breakfast just didn't look appetizing that morning. We had never been to Denny's before despite our many stays in Coventry; so we decided to give it...

  • Grabbing A Snack for the Room

After a long drive and a later than usual check in we decided to stop and grab a few donuts and drinks for the hotel. We like their unsweetened ice tea and grabbed two large containers with lemon. We tried their glazed pumpkin donuts; first time I ever saw them; they must be seasonal. I usualy get a glazed chocolate and Liz gets a coffee roll but...

  • When your choices of places to eat are...

Applebee's is your typical type of fast food chain restaurant which are located throught the country. For most people, this constitutes a night out for a decent meal where you can take the kids and have a pretty large selection of dishes. I've had my share of visits to Applebee's usually because they can provide a more decent and filling meal than...

  • Open 24 hours and Ferni was starving!!

I personally do not care to eat at fast food chain restaurants, but there are times when you just don't have any other choice. I prefer to go local, but Ferni was starving and it was way past 3 am when we finally made our way back to the hotel and Dennys was the only place open for him to grab something to eat.Much to my surprise, Ferni said that...

  • When you're hungry enough to eat...

Liz and I had left work and headed up to Coventry. We arrived a bit tired from our journey and hungry enough for something small. Applebee's was right across from the hotel and we were not in the frame of mind to begin wandering in search of food. We should have wandered....the food was not very good. The spinach dip was okay but the chips were...

Coventry Transportation

  • Driving

Driving is our prefered way to get to Coventry. We hop on I-95 Northbound by our home and take exit 7 (Coventry-West Warwick). From there we turn onto the New London Turnpike and then to our hotel on New England Boulevard. Depending on traffic it can take about two hours.

  • Roadtrip on I-95

Getting to Coventry is quite easy and very accessible for us from Westchester. We hop on I-95 going North crossing the border of Connecticut and then Rhode Island taking us about 2 to 2.5 hours (depending on traffic). We then take Exit 7 on I-95 in Rhode Island where we make a left and then another left which takes us directly to the three hotels...

  • Something for Ferni to enjoy back in our...

Whenever Ferni and I take a roadtrip we usually like to take along a favorite bottle of wine for me and either a small bottle of rum for him or some beer to enjoy in the comforts of our room without having to worry about driving.During this trip, I had brough along my wine, but Ferni forgot his rum, so off we set out to find a liquor store. The...

  • When you forget your toiletries back...

CVS is definitely my favorite drug store back home and whever I've forgotten to pack toiletries of some kind for either myself or Ferni, I know I can find one in most cities around the US. We had packed everything we needed except razor blades for Ferni's razor, so off we went to CVS to pick some up. This CVS is quite large and conveniently located...
