This dark red, two-story building stands out on Thames Street in the main part of Newport across from the wharf area. It is in an historic building and the upstairs restaurant is cozy and charming with its stained glass windows and local decor. It is a casual restaurant that serves everything from hamburgers & Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches to fresh lobster, filet mignon, and a wide variety of fish, fowl, beef and linguini dishes. Prices for entrees range from $10 to $20.
You must take the outside stairs up to Benjamin's as the downstairs part of the building is a sister restaurant called Poor Richard's, which serves breakfast & lunch.
Benjamin's usually even serves late into the evening. They close at midnight.
Favorite Dish: Everything was tasty, but their New England clam chowder was superb, and we are picky about our chowder.
A little more upscale than Brick alley but still great food in this local pub & restaurant. Huge portions
