Thames Street, Newport
Thames Street is where most all the shops are located. You will find everything from your normal chain stores to small boutique stores. Many souvenir shops are located along this streete that sell tee shirts and other items.
Our most recent trip to Newport was the last weekend in March 2015. There were some nice sales going in in many of the shops as they are clearing out the winter merchandise.
What to buy: The Preservation Society store is also where you buy your yearly membership. Highly recommend doing that if you will return even once in the next year. It is $75 dollars for a couple for a year and gets you into all the mansions for free for the next 365 days.
My wife loves to buy our nephew something whenever we travel so we usually stop here. This store has a bit of everything, tee shirts, music, toys and stuffed animals. Our nephew is only three so he loves his stuffed animals; in particular Boo the Pomeranian. On this trip we found him a Christmas Boo with Reindeer antlers for $24.95. he will be very happy to have this addition to his ever growing Boo collection.
The magic store has been in business for 15 years and is a must see. The Magic Studio is both an entertaining and educational store. There are magicians working at the store and are very familiar with products. It is amazing to see the magicians do the magic tricks. We end up buying a magic trick that we take home to learn.
What to buy: The Magic Studio has a great selection of magic for both beginners and experienced magicians for all ages such as coin tricks, magic kits and card tricks. The magic shop has a huge joke selection. The store has an impressive juggling selection such as juggling pins, devil sticks, and juggling balls. Plus, it has a terrific kite selection to buy for the beach.
What to pay: Because the store has a wide variety of products, the products range anywhere from a dollar and up.
