The Cliff walk is a 3.5 mile hike along a paved path with ocean cliffs overlooking the Atlantic on one side and some of Newport's most famous Gilded age mansions on the other. As of this writing (2013) a large portion of the walk is closed for repair.
The TALL SHIPS are in Newport this weekend! Local coverage in the newspapers and on TV...everyone is buzzing about it and planning a way to get into the city to see them. I'm thinking of driving to Jamestown Island to sit on the cliffs where we will be able to look across to Newport Harbor and perhaps see them when they do their parade of sails. These are the most exotic and wonderful sailing ships in the world. Three masted schooners...sailed from around the globe. It's a very exciting event which will draw thousands to the island. Parking is arranged at outlying areas and shuttle busses will take you in to the Goat Island area of town where it will be possible to photograph or tour the ships. What a weekend!
