The Astors' Beechwood Mansion is one of the many famous Newport Mansions that were built for high society by the 1880's as summer retreats. We visited this one during the week between Christmas 2008 & New Year's. It was touted by the Visitor's Center as being the best mansion to take kids to because professional actors recreate life during the Victorian Era. We took our granchildren and we all had a great time touring the beautiful mansion and interacting with the "Astor family members, friends, and domestic staff." There was even a musical song and dance event at the end. It was one of the highlights of our Newport week and well worth the visit.
Throughout the year, this mansion hosts other interesting and fun events, such as Daily Living History Tours, Musical Events, Victorian Murder Mysteries, Theatrical Performances. Go to their website below to see their Calendar of Events that happen all year long. You can even have a wedding at this prestigious location!
