Goat Island sit right off downtown Newport and is connected with a causeway. The lighthouse here was built in 1842 and is still functional today. Its beauty is a little nar'ed by the fact that it sits directly behind a Hyatt regency hotel
Located on Goat Island is the Goat Island Light House or Newport Harbor Light as it is sometimes called. This lighthouse was built on the island in 1842. There was once a light keepers house next to the light but a submarine struck it in 1921;damaging the house. The lighthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Our last visit to Newport; we stayed at the Hyatt on Goat Island. We had a perfect view of the lighthouse from our room since it is on the property. The lighthouse is rather small in comparison to other lighthouses in New England but it has a quaint charm about it.
