Rhode Island Off The Beaten Path

  • Cliff Walk

Walk the ENTIRE Cliff Walk - over the rocks, and through the seaweed. It is really beautiful. Most of the properties are privavte, but some are down right spooky, others ostentatious, and yet again, "WTF" you might be scratching your head.

  • Warren... rediscovered

Warren has had its ups and downs, but then along came all the antique shops and artists and it has come alive again. Always things to explore... events taking place.... or the waterfront to relax around. There are some neat restaurants on the waterfront and an excellent collection of 19th century homes.Warren

  • Tiverton... remote and loving it

Folks around Tiverton and LIttle Compton seem to enjoy their rural simple life by the sea. There are vineyards, farms, beaches, old houses, small specialty shops, and of course... Gray's Ice Cream Store (known far and wide). On the other side of the bay from where I live, I venture over only a few times a year...usually for an antique show. If you...

  • Westerly's Pawcatuck River

The Pawcatuck River narrows considerably as it approaches the business district of Westerly. The river actually separates the two states of Rhode Island and Connecticut. This pic was taken from the Conn. side looking towards the "border" bridge and Rhode Island. Years ago, before the Interstate Rte. 95 was built, there was a lot more traffic...

  • Take the ferry to Block Island

Tune in to my Block Island page for a taste of this relaxing island.Block Island

  • Block Island

Block Island is 12 miles (19 kilometers) off the coast of Rhode Island and is accessible only by ferry. (See the "Transportation" tips for more information). The 11-square-mile (28-square-kilometer) island is characterized by bayberry and blackberry tangles, rolling hills, moors, salt marshes, and cliffs. Outdoor enthusiasts will be attracted to...

  • Point Judith Lighthouse

Point Judith Lighhouse is on a rocky finger of land which reaches more than a mile into the ocean on the rugged Atlantic coast of Rhode Island. It is on the west side of the entrance to Naragansett Bay. There has been a lighthouse on this dangerous and rocky shore since 1810, the first being built of wood and destroyed by a storm after standing for...

  • The garden shed

A lovely weathered garden shed in a South Kingston backyard -- casual, yet elegant :) Note the flowerpots on the roof!

  • Watch the sun set over the salt pond

In this photo you can see through several backyards to the salt pond and the sunset. You can also see the gray shingles so common on the houses in New England..The salt ponds give a certain intimacy to being near the vast ocean.

  • Down the garden path ...

Near the Atlantic Ocean plants & greenery flourish with the humidity from the ocean. Here is a hydrangea enjoying its summer bloom in a local yard that we passed by frequently.

  • Relaxing Pond in the middle of...

The Ninigret salt pond is a scenic and relaxing alternative to the beach. One can wade, kayak, and wind surf on this shallow and warm salt pond. It is also wonderful for small children who are not experienced swimmers.

  • Turn right at the pile of rocks ...

In this case that would put you on Ocean Beach Drive. From the looks of this rock construction it may have been a well at one time. Or not.

  • Beaver Tail, RI-5

See some peole come out here to do some fishing. Looks to me not a good idea. Looks like the tide is coming in. I believe a few people have drowned here over the years.Or at the least slipped in the DRINK!

  • Beaver Tail, RI-3

I know these photos are over 20yrs old. Had that small cheap cam. Had to put this into show what some people do at low tide. Some SCUBA-DIVING also.

  • Beaver Tail, RI-2

Just like with any other Coast, there will always be boat& sailing going on. This is a ROUGH spot. You can walk around. But not a good idea to walk down the rocks.

  • Beaver Tail, RI

It has been a very long time I took a ride out here. Do other people take for granted the place they live in? I suppose I do. I just happen to come across these old photos.Nice look at the ocean & rocks.

  • Park Gardens-5

Bright one here in JULY! I remember this flower bouncing all over in the wind. If you come to RI. Stop by the GARDENS.

  • Park Gardens-4

Another look at the JAPANESE GARDENS.Where many couples go for their wedding pics. MID-JULY, this is what it looks like!

  • Water

Nice past time. If you have the money and the time. The area in front of the LIGHT HOUSE.Either in complete sunshine or FOG!!

  • Watch the leafs turn & fall!

I like the heat of summer. But, I really like towatch all these trees back here and around the area go through their change!

  • Park Gardens

Just inside the Main entrance. They have these beautiful gardens. You can just havea pic-nic, walk around. Most wedding parties come here for their pictures!

  • HomeGrown Jungle

Yes my stuff gets to be too much! Hard to fine those WORMS!! Sticks break! But thats a good problem to have!!

  • Leafs Falling

There is a section of woods back here. It runs the whole street. Supposed to beunbuildable. I hope it stays that way!The next neighborhood is about 300 or 400feet away.

  • Great exercise and beautiful views

When in Newport, walk the Cliff Walk, a beautiful 3.5 mile walk along the ocean. You can park at the end of Narragansett Street or at Easton's Beach and walk as far as you want.

So THAT is what it means!! :-) People ask me about my "name" on VT. It comes from the indian word meaning "little falls". We have a Pawtuxet River which empties into Pawtuxet Cove, then into Narragansett Bay and finally the Atlantic Ocean. Our village is known as Pawtuxet Village, but it is not an official entity. We straddle the cities of Warwick...

  • Little Compton IS off the beaten path

Little Compton is hidden off to one corner of Rhode Island...harder to find than most towns. And they like it that way. It's rural, pure, serene, historic, and very lovely. Great views of the Bay ... nice beaches hidden here and there....and the wonderful Sakonnett Winery to finish the afternoon. :-)Entrance to the winery...seasonally decorated

  • Providence: A Russian SUB in Rhode...

There is a little park at the edge of the city in Providence (near the electric company)....where they have brought a Russian submarine!! Yes. You can tour it if you like...or just stand in total disbelief as I did. Not sure why it is in Providence, RI...but there you have it~!!You need to enlarge this pic to see it well.

watchhillhouse being the last house on Taylor point gives you the illusion of being all by yourself on a very busy east coast setting.
