Olympia Tea Room Restaurant: A Watch Hill Institution

by shrimp56

Right on Bay St. in downtown Watch Hill you will find the Olympia Tea Room. Open since 1916 there is quite a tale attached to its history, which I neglected to memorize from the menu! Their website is, unfortunately, under construction. They have a Wine Spectator-listed selection of wines and creative cuisine. The grilled tuna sandwich with wasabi mayo was yummy as was the wedge of iceberg lettuce served with blue cheese dressing and bacon crumbles.

The Shelter Harbor Inn: Good food in a relaxed atmosphere

by shrimp56

Ask to be seated in the bar. It's much less formal and, if you want something smaller just ask for the "tavern menu" as they won't give it to you unless you do. We ordered from both..Shelter Harbor Inn is in Westerly, RI is also a B&B. I didn't see the rooms, but the public spaces were very charming..Ate dinner in the bar a week ago, just before Irene. Food was still very nice indeed! I had the prosciutto-wrapped scallop appetizer and the house salad. Both were excellent. My husband had a pork dish that he liked and my brother-in-law had the pictured halibut. All were content.

The Pier Restaurant: I got my lobster roll!

by shrimp56

I'm afraid I was rather insistent about needing a lobster roll. So on our day trip to Newport we headed for The Black Pearl, only to get caught in one way streets and ended up here. It was fine!No idea what anyone else had. I only had eyes for my lobster. It was a very traditional one with just mayo and celery and a bit of salt & pepper. I'm not an expert, but it was lovely:)

On a boat in the middle of Ninigret Pond: Sundowner Snacks

by shrimp56

Our hosts had translated the African safari, "sundowners" tradition to the middle of Ninigret Pond. They have the packing for this event down to a science. These scrumptious shrimp, along with some excellent cheese were our hors d'oeuvres. We threw the anchor over on a sandbar and enjoyed the end of the day. Great fun! It's the shrimp.

Cafe Panache: Best Grilled Pizza in Rhode Island

by Rhody1

Cafe Panache has a warm and inviting atmosphere with a leather couch, granite tables, free WiFi and friendy employees. The food has a true italian style. They offer grilled pizza's (which are amazing), wraps such as chipolte chicken salad, inventive salads, homemade pototo chips, soups and prepared meals like chicken parm, lasagna, roasted potatos, pesto penne, gorgonzola mac n' cheese and more. They also have the best drinks like ice coffee and ice tea with coffee and tea ice cubes. And they offer a wide array of flavored coffees and cold drinks like FUZZ. It's the perfect place to spend hours hanging out with friends or having a casual lunch. The prepared meals are great when you dont have the time or energy to cook and very affordable at almost the same price it would take you to make it yourself. With the marina close by they will pack your picnic basket for you to take aboard. They...

The Corner Tavern: Real RI Chowder and Clam Fritters

by paulapes

This restaurant is not fancy, but the food is good and the staff is nice, so who cares? They have the clear clam chowder that is distinctly Rhode Island, but that you can't get everywhere in the state. It's yummy. They also have great clam fritters (yes, I said fritters, that's what they are!) though lots of places in RI now call them clam CAKES. Anyway, they are very good and there's also fish and chips, steamers, and many other fish dishes, and burgers, etc., for those who don't like seafood. Chowdah (RI-speak!) and fritters. I've had fish and chips there too, and other fish dishes...no complaints!

Christies in Newport: Lobster Rolls!

by paulapes

Christies is the oldest waterfront restaurant in Newport. It's in the center of town, surrounded by water and many boats. The interior is interesting, with many pictures of famous people who've eaten or visited there, and art by locals hanging on the walls. Lobster roll and raw littlenecks! Yum, yum, yum!!

Cafe Nuovo: Pricey, but sooooo good!

by paulapes

Great food and perfect location in Providence, right on the Riverwalk and next to Waterplace Park. Location, atmosphere, and friendly staff. It's expensive, but worth it for a special occasion. Oh just everything---try some of the specials. And for dessert, the Pot O' Mousse is fantabulouslyterrific!

Family Diner: 50's atmosphere

by Gloriann

I wish I could remember the exact name of this nice restuarant where we ate, in the area of Westerly in Rhode Island. I think it was called The Family Diner, or something like that. I was not going to post any infoprmation on it since I can't remember the name, but thought I would anyway since the food was very good. We had just driven through the town of Westerly and were heading east along highway 1 when we saw it. I am glad we stopped there because not only was the food good, but I enjoyed seeing all the decorations on the walls from the 1950's very much. Even the waitress was dressed like the 1950's.
