There are numerous alternative transportation options in this small state. An extensive myriad of bicycle paths, ferries, trains and short-hop airlines will get you around with minimal inconvenience. Voted as the 'Best Place to Pop the Question', there is even a group of authentic Venetian gondolas operating in downtown Providence! Make reservations early. Providence's T.F. Green Airport (PVD) bills itself as the "Hassle-Free Gateway to New England," and this is true. Providence lies between Boston and New York City, so anyone wanting to visit New England can avoid the overcrowded airports in those other cities by flying into this small airport. T.F. Green Airport is about 11 miles (18 kilometers) southwest of downtown Providence, just off Interstate 95. Most of the major American carriers serve Providence. Other than service to Canada and the Azores, there are no international flights into Providence, so anyone coming from Europe, Asia, or South America would have to fly into Boston or New York City. Airlines serving T.F. Green Airport: Air Canada, American Airlines, American Eagle, Cape Air, Continental Airlines, Continental Express, Delta Air Lines, Delta Connection, New England Airlines, Northwest Airlines, SATA International, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, United Express, US Airways, and US Airways Express. Get there however you want, but once you're there, DRIVE. Just take a drive, who cares if you came to visit one town in particular...get out and drive. Trust me, you will run into something amazing. If you're into photography, you will find a shot that is a million to one. If not, it will be like watching a movie; the scenery constantly changes, and always takes you by surprise. Rhode Island is one of the few places in the US that can easily be reached by train. The Northeast Corridor(roughly from Boston to Washington DC) is regularly serviced and is relatively inexpensive. Rhode Island itself--like almost every place in US--requires a car especially because I think the Eastern Shore of the bay is worth visiting. Go all the way down to Sakonnet Point and those areas and you will love it! Theme: Train
