There are some fun shops in Westerly. We visited a terrific antique shop next to the bridge on the RI side. There is a good coffee shop there, a couple of specialty clothing shops across the way on Broad St. This pic is on the Connecticut side....with an Art Show & Sale going on, and the Prime Time Cafe for cocktails.
Westerly has enjoyed a bit of renewal in recent years. Decline followed the diminished railroading of past years, when New Yorkers as well as Rhode Islanders would travel to the nearby beaches of Westerly to stay in the grand hotels on the ocean. Altho the grand homes have been preserved, some of the town's buildings got a bit worn down. Thankfully it has retained some lovely public buildings such as its town hall, library and railroad station (restored about 2 yrs. ago). This is a view of the main street, known as Broad Street. The lovely yellow brick building is the library. Check some of my other tips to see a few of the revitilazation efforts occuring in this charming little town on the Connecticut border.
Last time I visited Westerly I was told they planned to have shops all along this river walk on the RI side. It would be great to walk from shop to shop along the riverbanks.
