South of Wickford in the mill town of Hamilton was the Hamilton Web Company. We used to go there to buy braids, lace and rickrack and the like. There was a little store at the factory where they sold odds and ends.
My mother and I used to go there to buy braids in the early 70s
What to pay: It was priced by the foot
Wickford Toy and Stationery is pleasant little toy store on Brown Street in Downtown Wickford, which has a fun selection of toys, dolls and games. Anna had fun exploring the store and had a tough time making up her mind. She ultimately decided on a cute watering can, which she proceeded to use all weekend helping our hosts to water their garden.
Teddy Bearskins is a wonderful little girls' clothing store that saved our Easter weekend in Wickford. We had forgotten to pack Anna's Easter dress and stumbled into Teddy Bearskins hoping to redeem ourselves. Fortunately, the store had a great selection and helpful staff, and 30 minutes later Anna had a better Easter dress than the one we left at home.
In addition to girls clothing, Teddy Bearskins sells clothing for boy and girl babies and toddlers. It also has a fun selection of dolls and other toys.
If you are out on your boat.....perhaps a 40' cabin cruiser and you want to open a bottle of wine at the end of the day, you might want to take your dingy over to the fish store and buy some fresh shrimp for a shrimp cocktail before dinner.......
or..... a "stuffy" as we call them in Rhode Island. This is a stuffed Quahaug, which is a very large clam. The stuffing is ground quahaugs, breading, seasonings, and baked in the shell. We like to eat them with a squeeze of lemon and/or a bit of hot sauce.
The Herb Wyfe carries herbs and oils, soaps, and incense. Special things to arouse your senses... and calm your soul.
