Bass Pro Shop: When All is Given to Shopping Malls

    by mrclay2000 Written May 10, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

When so many things in American shopping are giving way to shopping and strip malls, it's sometimes nice to find a superstore devoted to a narrower range of interests. In other words something like the Bass Pro Shops, or Cabela's of Minnesota. Of the original Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, Missouri, you'll find under this 300,000 sq foot emporium every imaginable product or service devoted to the out-of-doors. Fishing, footwear, golf, marine, camping, clothing, hunting, gifts, restaurants, aquariums, wildlife displays and motifs, and games galore all await you under one gigantic log cabin roof.

Walmart, Target, K-mart: Discount Shopping in USA

    by dln6874 Updated May 7, 2003

For you foreigners who might not be aware, you get the best prices for everyday needs in discount stores such as Walmart, K-mart, and Target. Walmart is my all time favorite though.

What to buy: Not necessarily special items, but general items you might need to buy while vacationing: Toiletries, camera/film, towels, snacks, drinks, clothes, shoes, etc. Some super-centers have grocery too.

What to pay: I don't think I've ever found anything sold at Walmart cheaper anywhere else.

What to buy: Anything you like that is there.

What to pay: Less than anywhere else.

Cracker Barrel country store: Cracker Barrel country store

    by b1bob Written Apr 5, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Cracker Barrel restaurants look the part of an old country store and they really are. At the entrance of each restaurant is an old country store. All manner of food products, old Coca-Cola signs and bottles, as well as old-style toys and games are sold. It is a clever gimmick because when there is a wait for tables, browsing occupies your time.

What to pay: About what you would expect to pay in a real country store.

    No sales tax in Oregon!

    by horsinround2 Written Oct 13, 2002

Oregon doesn't have sales tax, so if you're planning on buying a lot & are choosing between OR or a neighboring state, you'll save $$$ by going to OR. CA sales tax is 7.5% and isn't included in the ticket price, it will be added at the cash register.

Convenience stores can be found on about every other corner. At many 7-11's you can fill ‘er up - both your car and your belly with a Super Big Gulp soda pop (the pop is more expensive per gallon).
