Pack what you need for the season. It doesn't usually get as cold as up north. But it can get breezy in the evenings in the summer.
Depending on the season
There are medical places all over if a doctor is needed or emergency.
Take lots of pictures. It's one of the most photographic areas with history in the US I think.
There are a few State Parks.
There's something for everyone here. Leave a Comment

Bring comfortable walking shoes!
Bring sunscreen! I swear there's a giant magnifying glass over Charleston. I fry every summer. Bring insect repellent. Leave a Comment

A hat and of course comfortable shoes.
The Southern sun will cook you any time of the year. Don't let a cloudy day fool you. Slather on the sunscreen!

Pack for play, site seeing, casual classy, and dressy. You can show some skin in Charleston, but keep it classy. This is not Miami and if you roll in all hoochied up, you will get looked down on here.
Light cottons, sun dresses for the ladies. Flip flops are acceptable pretty much everywhere, except for some of the restaurants on East Bay, which you would want to dress up for anyway. It does not rain often and when it does, it generally clears right up, but a small umbrella is always handy. Its a perfect walking city, so bring some comfy shoes, but keep in mind Charleston unlike the rest of SC is very fashion forwards. There is great shopping, and some chains like Banana, J Crew, Gap, etc downtown, but most of the boutique type stores are $$$$.
Make up will sweat off in the summer, so act accordingly. Hand wipes are great and LOTS of water.
Anything you normally would bring and special lenses for bright backgrounds and zoom lenses for possible dolphin sightings at waterfront park.
The usual suspects...Wear 50+ sunscreen if you are not used to the Southern Coastal climate. It's tropical and you can get burned easily. Leave a Comment

pack light
Just pack for the weather really. If it's spring or fall just have a few light layers and comfortable shoes. If it's winter which is November to February wear layers and a light jacket. Rarely would you ever need gloves, scarf or hat. In my whole life growing up here and now I have never and never seen anyone wear those. In the summer it can get very hot and humid from the end of May-August. Pretty much wear as little as possible, but keep in mind it will get a litle cooler at night so there is some relief from the heat.
only if you're camping
Wear sunscreen and if you're camping bug repellent. the mosquitos can get bad near marsh and the woods.

by JayChas18 BRING WALKING SHOES!!! Downtown Charleston has very limited parking. And as you'll see when you get here, The roads are small, and mostly one-way streets. But it's ok, because everything is in walking distance, and there's a beautful veiw the whole walk no matter which direction you go. Leave a Comment

by JayChas18 bring some swimming stuff! Many water parks, and beaches... Here's a pic of Waterfront Park's fountain, and great place to cool off in our horrifically hot summers. Leave a Comment

The SC summers are HOT. June -September average 95+ degrees and with the humidity it can be stifeling. The best time to visit is October - May! Island casual is acceptable most anywhere.
Great photo ops of beaches and historical sites.
