Saks Fifth Avenue 211 KING ST., Ph (843) 853-9888 by tpangelinan, 3 more photos Well to start with, when we got into town and on King St. you really notice the town and some of what it has to offer. Stores lined the streets for blocks, it started with Saks Fifth Avenue with limo's parked out front waiting. You will find any thing and every thing on this street for a price! Banana Republic, Lucky Brand, Tommy Bahama's, Magaritaville, William & Sanoma,Puma, Steve Madden, Gap and so much more. Shopping heaven, so if you got the money be ready to part with it! But have fun while doing so! If you want craft and local artist work go to Market street and visit their stores! Leave a Comment Theme: Gifts

Wal-Mart by tpangelinan We needed a few thing that we forgot and found this Wal-Mart on James Island on 12 minutes away, so off we dashed after work. They were open until 11:00pm and got there in time and still we had plenty of time to shop. The prices were very reasonable and the service was good. Take the bridge over to James Island Take the Folly Beach Road exit and turn left and it's down on the right about 2 miles. OK, King St and the market iare the place to shop. As anyone who has been to Charleston knows...cheap parking is nearly impossible to find. There is one place that usually is open because tourists do not know about it. When driving down King ST, look for Saks Fifth Ave. After you pass Saks, there is a one way alley to the right. Drive straight o the end. Right in front of you is a large metered parking lot that usually has spaces. Most of the meters dont work anyway, but on Sundays it's free. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

A drawing from "Mellowed by Time" by ZanieOR Whle prints of the late Charleston artist Elizabeth O'Neill Verner's pastels and etching are on sale here, they also have work by other regional artists. It was here I that I picked up her book about her home town, "Mellowed by Time: A Charleston Notebook" which is highly recommended for anyone who likes to know more about Charleston. The market place is great for gifts, souvineers, jewelry, and even chili. You can find a lot of neat things here. King Street is full of antique shops, and also around here you'll find some of the nicer stores, especially at the Charleston Place Hotel. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Antique store on King St. in Charleston. by ZanieOR I can't remember the name of any particular shops but there were quite a few of them on King Street.
With Charleston as old as it its, there were a lot of great antique furniture and collectibles. I bought the old post card I used at the top of my Charleston because I thought it was so neat. (Somewhere I have the photos I took of a sunset we watched over Battery Park)
Of course most of the antiques are expensive, but my post card was only a dollar I think. Leave a Comment Theme: AntiquesAddress: King St.

Sweetgrass Baskets by Sagespot Perhaps the best known craft to the casual Carolina visitor is basket weaving. In the Charleston Market men and women sit in their stands making and selling their wares. These baskets are the products of a tradition passed down from African ancestors and carried across the Atlantic. They are relatively lightweight and are mainly for show.
Sweetgrass crafts of course! Seriously though, we only purchased a rose made of the sweetgrass and sold in the Visitor's Center of the Historic District. We would have gotten one from the Old City Market if we'd not been offered a better deal at the Center.
About USD$5 for a sweetgrass rose but about USD$30 and up for a tiny basket. Leave a Comment

The Brass Pirate is Charleston's ONLY Pirate Shop!! Not only is there a huge selection of pirate stuff (of course,) but the shop also has a treasure hunt you can purchase that will walk you around Charleston. Although I didn't do this tour I heard a bunch of good stuff about it. I highly recommend stopping here. It was a great place to wander around and pick up some pirate-type gifts. Open daily from 10am - 5pm.
They have a huge collection of statues, bottle holders, spy glasses, telescopes, unique pirate memorabilia, a wide verity of brass stuff, compasses, knot boards, clocks, oil paintings and a billion different pirate t-shirts. Ok, maybe not a billion but it's close.
Pretty cheap actually, compared to many of the other touristy type places in the Historic district. Leave a Comment Theme: GiftsAddress: 40 North MarketPhone: 843.425.5850Directions: In the Rainbow Market.Website: www.thebrasspirate.com Other Contact: 843.425.5844
