Gita's Gourmet, Inc.: Wish I'd Found it Sooner!!

  • This is a tiny little shop on the north end of the outdoor market - and I wish I'd found it sooner. They had the BEST prices for unique food/tea/beverages type things in the whole area!

They had tons of teas, hot sauces, southern mixes, dips, etc. A total assortment of wild culinary type stuff. It made for GREAT gifts!

Charleston tea is really reasonably priced here. Skip where they're sold in the outdoor market and go to Gita's!

In general if you're looking for deep south specialty foods then this is the place for you.

Way less than for the same stuff at the outdoor stalls.

  • The shops along King Street provide a little of something for everyone. There are shoe stores (see specifically my Bob Ellis tip), clothing stores for men and women, lingerie stores, outdoor gear stores, makeup/beauty stores, antique stores, jewelry stores, and and and and....

Most of the shopping on King Street is higher end.

  • I did not do too much shopping, though I happened to walk into the Historical Society's museum. They sold a variety of gifts and had an interesting display on the different types of architecture used amongst the buildings.

    Old Historical Views: History Stuff!!

  • So, after wandering around Charleston's market district desperately seeking a unique gift to bring back for my father, I found Old Historical Views. It's this tiny shop on the north end of the market. It's not an outdoor stall but a store over near Gita's Gourmet.

They had just about every time of history that related to Charleston represented by at least one item in the store. Not only Civil and Revolutionary War stuff but also flags, books, music, and a ton more.

It was a great place to explore and learn more about the city as well as find unique stuff to bring back.

I picked up a few real musket balls from the Civil and Revolutionary War. The shop works with a guy that digs in battlefields then sells the bullets/balls. It make for a great gift and only ran about USD$5 each.

    Very reasonable rates.

    Ooops!: Great bargains and browsing

  • This is a clothing shop for men, women and kids: over runs and seconds from catalogue companies. There aren't many bargains on King Street. This is one of the few.

Ooops is fun shop to check out. I've seen brands from The Gap to Eddie Bauer to you name it. It changes all of the time and prices are dirt cheap. Clothing for women, men and kids...even shoes sometimes.

    Anywhere from $5 to $35
