Edmondston-Alston House, Charleston
Beautiful historic mansion, built in 1925 along the battery. The family lives on the third floor and the back is a B&B. Our guide shared info. about this multi generational Charleston family. Despite the Civil War, the Earthquake of 1886 and numerous hurricanes, the Alston family pieces remain in place much as they have for almost 200 years. We saw an original print of the Ordinance of Secession, portraits, dining room table, gas lights, mirror, exquisite interior woodwork, silver, china and .decorative arts.
This house museum is one of Charleston's most splendid dwellings. It was built in 1825 on Charleston's High Battery. The house has remained in the Alston family since 1838. Alston family furniture, silver, books and paintings remain in the high-ceilinged rooms much as they have been for over a century and a half.
Built in 1828, this house has been owned by the same family (Alston) since 1838. A family member still lives on the third floor, so the 30 minute tour is only of the lower two floors.
