Cheraw Things to Do

  • by templesc Written Jul 22, 2006

Every small town in South Carolina has its own festival, and Cheraw is no exception. Usually held the first weekend in April, when the flowers are in full bloom, Cheraw hosts the Spring Festival. Complete with local shows of gymnastics, dancers and music the Spring Festival hosts some of the best BBQ ever cooked in South Carolina on Saturday morning at First United Methodist Church to support the local Boy Scout Troops. Along with BBQ you will find every other type of southern goodness you can imagine. A stroll down Second Street will lead you to games, petting zoos, crafts, antiques and more food!
Along the Pee Dee River a Civil War Re-enactment will take place over the weekend ending with a church service in Old St David's Church on Sunday morning. You can also join in a night walking tour of the town which was an encampment for General Sherman on his march through the South.

If you need a coffee fix or a break in your drive - stop in to RawTown Coffee. They offer a wide variety of espresso drinks and fresh ground coffees of the day, along with fresh homemade pastries.
The atmosphere is a welcoming one for all ages and even offers a small play area complete with chalk board wall for the wee ones. WiFi is available to all patrons and comfortable leather sofas. Or enjoy a nice day with the sidewalk tables.
Located in Historical downtown Cheraw at 173 Second Street. Hours of operation are Monday - Thursday 6:30am - 6:30pm, Friday 6:30am - 10pm (sometimes later) and Saturday 9:00am - 10pm. Sorry they are closed on Sundays (everybody needs a break).
Check it out on line at www.rawtowncoffee.com

Favorite Dish: Raspberry Wake Me Up Chai Latte: Great flavor with the added kick of espresso!

The Great Pee Dee River runs basically through the center of Cheraw. Laney Landing is an easy access to the river and offers a great day on the river for canoes and kayaks. River changes with dam releases and can be a fast flowing river with flowing rapids over rocks. Not difficult to maneuver, but need some knowledge of where you are heading.
