THERE'S ONLY ONE GOLF COURSE IN THE WORLD that has each hole conceived by a different designer. It's Crosswinds Golf Club in Greenville, South Carolina and the reason you've never heard of it is because it's an 18-hole par-3 course.Yes, it's a gimmick, but it's a gimmick that works. What otherwise might have been just another fun-to-play but...

  • Rock Quarry Garden

This is a gorgeous little park that, in my opinion, is somewhat off the beaten path ~ simply because most tourists wouldn't even know to look for it. It's the site of a pre-Civil War granite quarry. Very cool! This is a popular location for weddings and photo shoots because it is so picturesque. On one side of the park is a small, bubbling...

For a change of pace, I took my toddler to the Butterfly Garden at Roper Mountain Science Center, in early October. It was like a walk through a fairytale land, there were so many butterflies! Greenville Restaurants

  • A Good Start To the Day

We stopped at Tommy's on our way back home for a good breakfast before we got on the road. Tommy's gave us that and more. We walked in and didn't realize it was so casual that you sat yourself but I'm going to say it out loud as a Democrat I wasn't afraid to ask one of the folks leaving whether or not to seat ourselves. As he was very polite in...

This restaurant was around the corner from our hotel and had received numerous good reviews so we were really looking forward to it. It did not disappoint. It's kind of cafeteria-y, you choose a meat and two sides with an extra side if that's what you want and then it's brought out to you. You help yourselves to the drinks which made my bestie...

Greenville Nightlife

  • A true rowdy southern bar

If you have friends visiting from out of town, this is the place to take them-- just for giggles. The smoke fogs up the bar area, live band is great and everyone dances. The live band plays country music tunes, then switches to hip hop. Expect lots of cowboy hats and boots. The mechanical bull is cool. At 12:30 p.m. all the ladies dance on the bar...

  • Greenville Spartanburg Airport (GSP)

Although this airport calls itself an "international" airport, there is not much to this place other than a couple gates that handle very small planes. This is by my definition a "regional airport" although I guess because of the BMW plant, it may have direct flights once in a while to Germany (most likely non-commercial).I flew into GSP on a...

Greenville Warnings and Dangers

  • SpaceCoastMomma's Profile Photo

by SpaceCoastMomma Written Apr 4, 2008

When we first arrived here, about 8 months ago, people (and their dogs) were still climbing on the rocks and swimming in the water at the Falls Park on the Reedy. At that time, signs were posted that "discouraged" people from climbing or swimming. However, those signs are being replaced by "prohibited" warnings. Not only have people been hurt slipping on the rocks, but now the DHEC is posting signs that high levels of fecal bacteria have been found in the water. I've heard that steps have been taken to begin a clean-up of the Falls, but ~ it is highly recommended that you do not swim in the water (or let your dog swim or drink from it!)

Greenville Tourist Traps

  • SpaceCoastMomma's Profile Photo

by SpaceCoastMomma Written Aug 28, 2007

I can't really say that there are tourist traps in Greenville as it seems to remain, somehow, seemingly undiscovered by the masses. Greenville has a an old-fashioned, down-home, small-town feel...BUT also offers all of the amenities & culture of a metropolitan city. I've no idea why the rest of the world doesn't all live here!

Greenville What to Pack

This trail is located in Cleveland Park, at the corner of Fernwood Lane & Woodland Way, very near the zoo. Our toddler loves to hike and this was perfect for him: a very well-maintained trail, with lots of little bridges to cross and things to explore along the way.
