Greenville Things to Do

  • Greenville Little Theatre

If a Broadway show comes to town, this is where you'll see it.Located on the Heritage Green area, next to the Greenville County Art Museum.

  • 18 holes of golf in 2 hours or 9 holes...

THERE'S ONLY ONE GOLF COURSE IN THE WORLD that has each hole conceived by a different designer. It's Crosswinds Golf Club in Greenville, South Carolina and the reason you've never heard of it is because it's an 18-hole par-3 course.Yes, it's a gimmick, but it's a gimmick that works. What otherwise might have been just another fun-to-play but...

  • Rock Quarry Garden

This is a gorgeous little park that, in my opinion, is somewhat off the beaten path ~ simply because most tourists wouldn't even know to look for it. It's the site of a pre-Civil War granite quarry. Very cool! This is a popular location for weddings and photo shoots because it is so picturesque. On one side of the park is a small, bubbling...

Free movies under the cover of darkness on the edge of the Reedy River! Bring lawn chairs & coolers. Begins at sundown. Located at the Peace Center Amphitheater. Every Wednesday night , May & September.

  • Butterfly Garden & Nature Trail

For a change of pace, I took my toddler to the Butterfly Garden at Roper Mountain Science Center, in early October. It was like a walk through a fairytale land, there were so many butterflies! It was easy to capture alot of great photos because there were just so many opportunities to click, click, click. Although the garden is relatively small, it...

Greenville Restaurants

  • A Good Start To the Day

We stopped at Tommy's on our way back home for a good breakfast before we got on the road. Tommy's gave us that and more. We walked in and didn't realize it was so casual that you sat yourself but I'm going to say it out loud as a Democrat I wasn't afraid to ask one of the folks leaving whether or not to seat ourselves. As he was very polite in...

  • Loved This Down Home Place!

This restaurant was around the corner from our hotel and had received numerous good reviews so we were really looking forward to it. It did not disappoint. It's kind of cafeteria-y, you choose a meat and two sides with an extra side if that's what you want and then it's brought out to you. You help yourselves to the drinks which made my bestie...

  • Best Fine Dining I've Had In a While

Stopped in on a Monday night on the recommendation of a friend of mine who works in a restaurant kitchen as I do. Companion who is also a cook and I weren't sure whether or not this place would be busy on a Monday night, but were they! By the time we ordered appetizers every seat was filled. We were greeted enthusiastically at the door by the...

Greenville Nightlife

  • A true rowdy southern bar

If you have friends visiting from out of town, this is the place to take them-- just for giggles. The smoke fogs up the bar area, live band is great and everyone dances. The live band plays country music tunes, then switches to hip hop. Expect lots of cowboy hats and boots. The mechanical bull is cool. At 12:30 p.m. all the ladies dance on the bar...

  • Impromptu Karaoke Night

As I have mentioned on a couple occassions, I am not much for a late nighter, and have not been a part of the club scene since college, but while in Greenville I decided to take a walk down Main Street. While passing Sharkey's Pub (which I had remembered was recommended for airline points), I ran into a guy from Denver who recommended a microbrew...

  • Wild Wing Cafe

A great little gathering place with great Buffalo Chicken Wings!! Plenty of the local crowd hangs out here, we met some and had a great time.I recommend the Buffalo Chicken Salad, but then I'm always a sucker for this dish.

Greenville Transportation

  • Greenville Spartanburg Airport (GSP)

Although this airport calls itself an "international" airport, there is not much to this place other than a couple gates that handle very small planes. This is by my definition a "regional airport" although I guess because of the BMW plant, it may have direct flights once in a while to Germany (most likely non-commercial).I flew into GSP on a...

  • Greenville/Spartenburg Airport (GSP)

A small airport. Thanks to BMW, they have the longest runway in South Carolina.Plenty of mainline & commuter service. Most common direct destinations are: Atlanta, Washington DC, Orlando, Cincinnati and Dallas.

  • The Greenville Spartenburg...

The Greenville Spartenburg Airport boasts the one of the longest runways in the United States. Most major airlines or their commuter airline affiliates serve the airport. It's a pleasant building, but nothing special. There are not too many restaurants (maybe only one) so one may bring food with them if they have a long wait.As with most places in...

Greenville Local Customs

  • Southern Hospitality

This is the true South, with true Southern Belles. I can say that as I'm from Texas and, being from Houston, I can tell you that THIS is the real South, with real Southern charm and real Southern hospitality. All women are "ma'am" and all men are "sir." Order a sweet tea and talk to all of the smiling people that pass you on the street and actually...

Greenville Warnings and Dangers

  • SpaceCoastMomma's Profile Photo

by SpaceCoastMomma Written Apr 4, 2008

When we first arrived here, about 8 months ago, people (and their dogs) were still climbing on the rocks and swimming in the water at the Falls Park on the Reedy. At that time, signs were posted that "discouraged" people from climbing or swimming. However, those signs are being replaced by "prohibited" warnings. Not only have people been hurt slipping on the rocks, but now the DHEC is posting signs that high levels of fecal bacteria have been found in the water. I've heard that steps have been taken to begin a clean-up of the Falls, but ~ it is highly recommended that you do not swim in the water (or let your dog swim or drink from it!)

Greenville Tourist Traps

  • SpaceCoastMomma's Profile Photo

by SpaceCoastMomma Written Aug 28, 2007

I can't really say that there are tourist traps in Greenville as it seems to remain, somehow, seemingly undiscovered by the masses. Greenville has a an old-fashioned, down-home, small-town feel...BUT also offers all of the amenities & culture of a metropolitan city. I've no idea why the rest of the world doesn't all live here!

Greenville What to Pack

  • Walking Shoes are a must!

I recommend a day-pack / back-pack and some comfy walking shoes...because, once you start walking around this beautiful city, you will want to just keep on exploring ~ all day and night ~ there is so much to see! The weather can be quite warm and sunny in the Spring & Summer months, so I recommend a sun-hat / sun-protection / sun-glasses. A...

  • April Weather Report

During this trip, I experienced great weather. Since I was on a business trip, I was wearing a sport coat and slacks, and both would not have been my first choice based on the weather. If this was pleasure, it would have been shorts and a t-shirt for sure! We did experience a couple minutes of very light rain while there, so definitely keep an...

Greenville Off The Beaten Path

  • Fernwood Nature Trail

This trail is located in Cleveland Park, at the corner of Fernwood Lane & Woodland Way, very near the zoo. Our toddler loves to hike and this was perfect for him: a very well-maintained trail, with lots of little bridges to cross and things to explore along the way.

Greek Orthodox Church: This was located next to my hotel in Greenville. I loved the unqiueness of the architecture of this church.

The thing that impressed me the most about Greenville is how clean the downtown is. I love the tree lined Main Street. It is in a renaissance.

  • Bob Jones University is in...

Bob Jones University is in Greenville. It is a Christian college that is somewhat controversial, in part, because of its conservative views. One notices that all women wear long skirts, not even showing the ankle. Major presidential candidates have come to the university to speak which exacerbates the controversy.
