We only had one night in Myrtle Beach and though we saw lots of pubs we opted to go to Broadway at the Beach, the town's recreation of a seaside boardwalk. Being from Jersey, it was a bit Disney for me but it was quite nice, clean, and oddly had music everywhere you went thanks to piped in tunes at generously places speakers. There are lots of shops, restaurants, pubs but as is the case with the "real" boardwalk, it is mostly about strolling and people watching. My friend said we'd see lots of hotties while there and he was right!
Dress Code: Casual attire is fine but look your best. If you're watching everyone else, they just might be watching you.

One of the surest spots to find beach music these days. It opens daily at 4:30 but doesn't really get going until around 9, or later. If you want to learn to do the shag, you might want to go earlier. They give free shag lessons.
Though in his 70s by now, you will probably see Fat Harold (Bessent) during your visit. He is a big man with large glasses. Ask Brenda, a bartender there for at least 25 years, to point him out for you. It is said that Fat Harold's is his home and that shag dancers are his family. With the bar-neon, photos, awards, news clippings, etc. on display in this place, it could be a museum, if they would turn up the lights.
In its July 17, 2005 Travel Section, in a feature article on Beach Music, The Charlotte Observer stated, " You can buy Carolina barbecue all over the country, but away from Lexington, it loses something. You can listen to beach music anywhere in the Carolinas, but at Fat Harold's, surrounded by its fans, you don't just hear it. You feel it. It gets inside you. It probably has the same effect on you in 2005 as it did on Jim Hannah and the late Chicken Hicks in 1948."

We were in Myrtle Beach the week of July 10th and as we do every year we went to Crocodile Rocks. It is a club based around 2 pianos. The piano players take your requested song, add some new verses or change words and make it fun. If you go there and are bored it is your own fault. The entire bar is based on the audience attendance and song request. Throughout the night audience members are taken onstage and added in the fun. The restrooms are VERY clean. They have bathroom attendants who stay in there to clean, give you towels after washing your hands etc. It is millions times cleaner than some of the other clubs we went to. Try to get a seat close to the stage or upstairs. These are the best seats. Give it a try...on Tues. you get in free before 830 because they allow kids in. If your in once the kids are there you're in for free so give it a try.

This is a nice stop to sit and listen to live music. They do a lot of old music and dress up like the Blues Brothers and get everyone they involved with the show. The kids love it to. They might even get daddy up to do a little dance and it’s also FREE!!! We go just about 7:00pm.- 8:00pm. and stay till after dark.

Broadway at the Beach is a very nice area just off of highway 17 bypass that will give everyone something to do, especially if you are a single on the scene. It has a few clubs you can get in for one low $10 fee, that allows you entrance into all of them....a piano bar, a live band (Froggy Bottomz) and 2 dance clubs... across the way on the property is a Senor Frogs as well as a Hard Rock Cafe, and a number of street vendors to sell you those late night pizza and hot dogs....
Dress Code: Beach attire, just make sure you have a shirt on... even sandals are cool at Broadway

First of all they charge a $5 cover at this place, and it's a dump. The attraction is the "dueling pianos" which is basically two guys with pianos that take requests and make jokes for tips. The table service was terrible, and they don't accept check cards or debit cards, which I have never heard of anywhere. The bathrooms were disgusting.
