Myrtle Beach Transportation

Our family has been visiting MB for 18 years and we just spent 4 days with no car or bike. I am always looking for inexpensive ways to travel here. We have our favorite hotel "the Palms" at 25th, although I am having some second thoughts about them lately. From the Palms we are able to walk to all of our favorite locations, the Pier 14, Gay Dolphin gift shop area, Starbucks, Dunkin donuts, and it was a 40 minute walk one way, but we did walk to Broadway at the Beach. The next time I would take a cab to Broadway for less than $20. That was quite a walk. There are many gift shops and restaurants in walking distance from the hotel. We picked up groceries at the Pigly Wiggly. We did the entire trip, 3 nights, 4 days w/air for $370. This included airfare for 2, 1 bedroom condo w/full kithcen oceanfront, cab fare, and airport parking. You have to consider what you plan to do while there if it is worth it. Renting a car could have been done for about $120. But we were satisfied with doing things close to our hotel. Great workout too!

You would think as popular as MB is the city would have a better traffic control . The city should take a look at how other cities use turn arrows something MB doesn't use at major intersections. MB is in the dark ages when it comes to helping people get from point A to B. ie small street signs at major intersections. Thats how cheap they are. They say their trying to improve some things but its been all talk. There isn't a decent major highway for 50 miles to get to the interstate.Thats been on on the drawing board forever and this is a suppose to be a major vacation spot. If you want to spend the majority of your vacation time sitting in traffic visit Myrtle Beach......

Having a car is definately the way to go. A lot of water parks and outlet malls are located a few miles from the main strip, taking a taxi might be expensive. There is plenty of parking available, though some hotels may have you park across the street in a private parking lot. A motorcycle seems to be the most popular and most convenient mode of transportation.
For those who are without a car, there is a regularly scheduled bus system called Lymo that travels within and around the Myrtle Beach area.
