    Walterboro

Walterboro is a rather small town, so just riding around and having a look here and there might be interesting...

    Here is some history:

In 1784, Paul and Jacob Walters and some other owners of large rice plantations in what is now Colleton County, S.C. began to look for a better location for their summer homes. They chose the most ideal spot in the area and named it Hickory Valley, later renamed into Walterboro. In 1817, the City of Walterboro became the county seat and was officially incorporated in 1826.

The families who founded the city were deeply religious and they brought their faith with them. So you will find many churches here, some dating back to the 18th century. All major Protestant denominations as well as the Catholic and Jewish faiths are represented in the community (and usually in a double pack: one for white and one for black people....)

Very charming is also the main street which sets you back in time, since it is almost unchanged since the 1940's.
