by Basaic Written Mar 4, 2015

Fort Pierre is a small town of about 2100 (up 7% since 2000) located along US Highway 83 just across the Missouri River from Pierre; the capital. The Fort Pierre area was first explored by Lewis and Clark in September of 1804. St. Louis Fur Trader Pierre Chouteau, Jr. established Fort Pierre Chouteau on the North bank of the Bad River in 1832, and the town was born. Fort Pierre is at the confluence of the Missouri and Bad Rivers. Fort Pierre is in Stanley County and is the county seat.
