Black Hills Bagels: A nice change for breakfast

    by Bwana_Brown Updated Sep 26, 2008

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

On the morning of our final day in Hill City, we were up and packed for the 10-hour drive north to Regina, Saskatchewan so early (6:40 AM) that the Best Western hotel restaurant was not yet open. So, we set off anyway - taking the highway east into Rapid City as we made for Interstate Highway 90 by the most direct route.

By the time we made it to Rapid City, a large community where many visitors to the area stay, a few places had come alive and we were lucky enough to spot the downtown-located Black Hills Bagels as we passed through.

Favorite Dish: This is a restaurant with a nice ambiance, both inside and outside. It has a large indoor seating area with tables spread out over a wide area as patrons sit reading newspapers while enjoying their morning coffee.

In our case, we placed a take-out order for two toasted cinnamon bagels, one with plain and the other with brown sugar cream cheese. Along with two cartons of orange juice and a black coffee, the order came to US$12. We were quite happy with our little find as we munched away while continuing onward!

Espresso Bar: Nothing spectacular, but it did the trick

    by Bwana_Brown Updated Sep 26, 2008

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Golden Spike Best Western hotel had a large restaurant area attached to the lobby, set up with booths, tables and chairs for either buffet-style dining or regular menu choices. The only 'fast-food' joint we saw in Hill City was a small and narrow Dairy Queen squeezed between the major tourist stores lining the downtown streets - so it was difficult to just pop out for a quick bite. As a result, we ended up having a couple of evening meals at our hotel, finding the food to be average. Most of the clientele seemed to be wolfing down huge amounts from the buffet set-up but we go more for quality rather than volume!

Favorite Dish: However, we enjoyed the breakfasts we had sitting in booths by the front windows. Service was fast and efficient and we kept it down to simple orders of 2 eggs over medium, whole wheat toast, bacon, orange juice and coffee. For the two of us, with a tip, it came to just under US$17.

The breakfasts were timely and good too!

Teddy's Deli: Excellent place for lunch in Keystone

Excellent place for lunch with the family. We had the Great American Reuben and Nathan's hot dogs, and they were all very delicious.
