Plankinton is a small town of under 1000 located in Southern South Dakota. It is the county seat of Aurora County and was named for a prominent meat packer and hotel owner from Milwaukee. Plankinton has a slight connection to the more famous nearby town of Mitchell in that the namesakes for both towns were friends and that Plankinton has (or had I'm not sure) a "Wheat Palace" that inspired the "Corn Palace" in Mitchell. The courthouse was built in 1939 and uses an architectural style common in that time period.
I liked this town quite a bit.
