    Hardeman County Courthouse

by Basaic Written Feb 6, 2012

Bolivar (rhymes with Oliver) is a decent sized town of almost 6000 in Southwest Tennessee. It is the county seat of Hardeman County. Bolivar started on the banks of the Big Hatchie River and was called Hatchie Town. It became Bolivar after South American Patriot General Simon Bolivar, in 1825. Hardeman County was named after Thomas Jones Hardeman a local veteran of the War of 1812. The county courthouse was built in 1868 and is one of my favorites in the state. The arches and Corinthian Style columns are a nice architectural touch. The courthouse is part of the Courthouse Square Historic District.
